Milwaukee Repertory Theater is currently seeking applicants for the position of Human Resources Generalist. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing the day-to-day HR related duties in support of the administrative operations and in alignment with the overall mission and core values of the organization, with a focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion. This position reports to the Managing Director and acts as advisor to management in the administration of HR best practices in the following functional areas: recruitment, onboarding, employment law compliance, employee and labor relations, workers compensation, employee training and development, and benefits administration.
Other major duties and responsibilities include:
- Organize and coordinate recruiting and hiring processes by creating and managing online job postings, reviewing resumes, performing telephone and in-person interviews, conducting background/reference checks, and extending offers
- Facilitate new employee onboarding and orientation
- Collaborate with the Managing Director, Chief Diversity Officer, and leadership to enhance HR processes within the areas of recruitment, onboarding, employee development and retention to help guide alignment with Milwaukee Rep’s Equity, Diversity & Inclusion plan; and maintain tracking mechanisms to generate reports that measure outcomes and success
- Assist the finance department with benefits administration and recordkeeping
- Conduct in-house annual staff training in Milwaukee Rep’s employment policies and other topics as required
- Administer HR policies and procedures for the organization; update as needed to ensure compliance with applicable laws and HR best practices; assist in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; and maintain the COVID-19 safety and personnel handbooks
- Act as a resource for staff in the areas of policy administration and interpretation, employee leave and fringe benefits, company programs, and avenues for support and reporting concerns
- Administer FMLA and other leave benefits
- Advise management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues
- Assist with worker’s compensation filings
- Track and coordinate the employee performance evaluation process including working with managers to develop and implement performance improvement plans when necessary
- Maintain job descriptions and ensure compliance with FLSA
- Maintains human resources HRIS and personnel records; and completes required documentation associated with employee actions such as hires, terminations, leaves of absence, etc.
- Participate in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings as needed

Requirements
Technical Knowledge and Experience: Qualified candidates will have a successful track record of experience human resources administration along with a willingness to drive change in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the theater. As well as the following:
- Associate’s degree in business, human resources, communications, or related field; OR two (2) years human resources experience; AND/OR any combination of training, education, and experience
- PHR/SPHR certification a plus
- Demonstrated knowledge of HR best practices, laws, and regulations
- Previous experience in a union environment and knowledge of non-profit business practices, a plus
- Experience using HRIS systems; and skilled at using technology to create efficiencies
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- A willingness to commit to the mission, vision, and values of the theater; experience developing or administering policies and practices that emphasize diversity, equity, and inclusion, a plus
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy; and the ability to effectively communicate within a diverse group of colleagues and artists, all while exhibiting grace and good humor under pressure
- Ability to provide general counsel and coaching to staff and management as an unbiased third party
- Willingness to take a proactive approach in project management with the ability to work independently in administering the HR functions for a diverse organization
