What are the responsibilities and job description for the Piano Teacher position at Milwaukie School of Guitar?

The Milwaukie School of Guitar is a private music studio offering private lessons guitar, piano, voice, banjo, ukulele & electric bass. We have a substantial demand for piano lessons and are looking to bring on additional instructor to keep up.

New teachers typically start with a scheduling window of 3-4 hours a day, one or two days a week. As the schedule fills in with students, hours will be expanded and extra days can be added to the schedule as desired. The ideal candidate is someone with ambitions of eventually have a full scheduling teaching 3-4 days a week.

At this time we are particularly interested in meeting the demand for lessons on weekday afternoons between 3-7 pm, but there is weekday demand as well. The schedule will customized for the right candidate.

Established instructors at our studio typically teach 3-4 days a week, and have roughly 7-10 students each day. Lessons may be either 30 or 60 minutes. The majority of our students are children, but we have many adult learners as well. Most lessons take place in person, but some will be taught online as needed.

Please note that depending on the circumstances, it can take several months to fill out a teaching day with students. Once a student base is established, however, it is usually very consistent and easy to maintain. To assist our teachers during this building phase, we provide a daily base rate regardless of the number of lessons taught. Our goal is to acquire and keep high-value teachers by being respectful of their time and talents, and offering opportunities for growth. Outside of private lessons, eventually there will be opportunities for group classes, summer camps, and other ventures as well.

Requirements:

  • Must be highly proficient on the piano.
  • Be able to read sheet music fluently.
  • A strong understanding of music theory.
  • At least two years of music teaching experience, including experience teaching remotely.
  • Experience working with children (Students will be as young as 5 years old.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • The ability to teach additional instruments
  • Bachelor's Degree in Music or equivalent formal training
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in education

This is an independent contractor position.
All applicants must pass background check.

Pay: From $30.00 per hour

  • Please list the instruments you can teach and the highest skill level to which you are comfortable teaching each instrument. For Example - Piano (Advanced), Voice (beginner), Guitar (beginner).
  • Are there particular styles of piano do you consider yourself most proficient? (Classical, Jazz, Popular, Etc.)
