What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Equipment Operator position at Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board?
Operate a wide variety of mobile equipment of up to 50,000 lbs GVW to perform lawn, tree, waste removal, grounds and road maintenance duties. Position is temporary lasting up to six (6) months, with expected duration from mid-April through mid-October, depending on work location and weather conditions. May be assigned a modified workweek and workday that may include days, nights, holidays, and weekends. Working hours are generally 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM or 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM.

- Safely drive and operate trucks that may require a CDL of up to 50,000 lbs GVW for the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB).
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspection of all assigned equipment.
- Perform grounds maintenance including mowing MPRB property, such as regional parks and ball fields.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment as necessary.
- Perform manual labor including loading and unloading trucks and working with maintenance and forestry crews outside of the truck.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work in a team environment as part of the Park Maintenance or Forestry crew.
- Perform and foster an environment of safe work practices and report safety issues promptly to appropriate staff.
- Assist MPRB in identifying and addressing the park and recreation needs of underserved and under-represented communities.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 18 years old at time of hire.
- Valid MN Class B or Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brake and tanker endorsement (an applicant who does not have a tanker endorsement will be required to go to the Minnesota DMV and obtain a tanker endorsement prior to a final job offer).
- At least 1 year experience driving trucks of at least 26,001 lbs GVW preferred.

- Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.
- The ability to safely operate motor vehicles and both small and large equipment as incumbents are subject to local travel to and from work locations on city streets and public grounds.
- The ability to remain in a sitting or standing position for extended periods of time.
- The incumbent may be required to traverse on rough, uneven terrain, as well as wet and slippery surfaces.
- Considerable amount of outdoor work: Handles pesticides and hydraulic fluids. Exposure to toxic materials and hazardous items such as hypodermic syringes, vermin, decaying materials, etc. while assigned to trash removal. Potential of injury due to falling objects.
- Proper operation of vehicles and equipment including, but not limited to, vehicles requiring a CDL, mowers, water trucks, clam trucks, dump trucks, chippers, aerial tower trucks, flatbeds, weed harvester, waste removal equipment and other equipment as needed.
- Proper operation of hand and power tools.
- Ability to maintain and secure loads.
- Ability to utilize technology and communicate using a mobile device.
- Ability to navigate City of Minneapolis streets using a map or device with GPS to find work locations.
- Establish and maintain effective, respectful, and productive working relationships in a diverse work environment.
