Norman County Social Service Center is hiring a Financial Assistance Supervisor i.

Under the direction of the Director of Human Services, the Financial Assistant Supervisor is responsible for providing daily direction, supervision, training and oversight of staff assigned to the income maintenance unit.  Oversees all public assistance programs to ensure families and individuals are receiving public assistance for programs in which they are eligible according to the rules, regulations, and guidelines of the programs.  This position is responsible for assisting in the development of new or revised procedures and methodsfor assessing, determining, documenting or performing case management responsibilities in the areas of public assistance.  The Financial Assistance Supervisor works closely with staff in providing interpretation of laws, program guidelines and departmental policies and procedures; resolves and mediates disputes/complaints between clients and staff.













• Analyzes, evaluates and suggests modifications in procedures involved in the management of the income maintenance programs.
• Holds individual and group meetings with subordinates and interprets policies, rules and regulations.
• Reviews case records to see that agency policies and regulations are adhered to and proper procedures are being followed.
• Recruits and selects personnel for the unit.
• Trains new employees.
• Supervises and assigns work to staff.
• Monitors caseload sizes to maintain equitable workloads
• Evaluates staff performance and recommends appropriate action.
• Interviews clients when special circumstances arise, listens to grievances and recommends appropriate action..
• Interprets and develops policies through conferences, staff meetings and/or director as well as representatives of the Department of Human Services.
• Fosters the professional development of staff through orientation programs, in-service training and planned use of supervisory and consultative services.
• Maintains necessary contacts with other agencies and vendors.
• Assists in facilitating referral to social services.
• Attends appeal hearings.
• May be required to present material to the Board.
• Completes special studies and surveys as requested.
• Attends appropriate meetings and training sessions.
• Directs the activities of office support staff assigned to the unit.
• May carry a small caseload of specialized or complex cases.
1) two years of experience providing lead work direction to staff involved in the determination of eligibility for financial assistance programs or work in the collection of child support ; or

2) one year of experience providing lead work direction to staff involved in the determination of eligibility for financial assistance programs or work in the collections of child support and completion of two years of study at an accredited two year or four year college/university, with emphasis in the behavioral sciences, business or closely related subject, with at least 23 quarter credits or 16 semester credits; or

3) six months of experience providing lead work direction to staff involved in determination of eligibility for financial assistance programs or work in the collection of child support and a bachelor's degree at an accredited four year college or university in social work, psychology, sociology, business or closely related subject; or

4) three years of experience as a Financial/Eligibility Worker, Child Support Officer or in similar/equivalent work in determining eligibility for financial assistance programs or work in the collection of child support in a human service agency; or

5) two years of experience as a Financial/Eligibility Worker in a human service agency and completion of two years of study at an accredited two or four-year college, with emphasis in the behavioral sciences, business or closely related subjects (at least 23 quarter or 16 semester credits); or

6) eighteen months experience as a Financial/Eligibility Worker in a human service agency, and completion of a bachelor's degree at an accredited four year college or university with a major in the behavioral sciences, business or closely related subjects.


The examination will consist of a rating of training and experience based on the information you provide in your application and your responses to the supplemental questions included in the application process. You will be asked to verify your degree with official transcripts upon hire.
