At Miss April's Music, we are working to change people’s perception of music lessons. A lot of people picture a grumpy old piano teacher that used to demand their student practice 30 minutes a day and slap their hand with a ruler if they did something wrong.
Not here! We are quite the opposite. We strive to help every student actually ENJOY their music lessons. Think of the Magic School Bus…but for music lessons!
We use small group lessons, games, fun music, personal touches, and caring teachers to give every student a positive experience in our studio.
No teaching experience necessary. We will train you how to teach and how to work with kids. Everything is done for you. All you have to do is follow the curriculum and have FUN!
You will NOT have to take care of
-Scheduling
-Collecting payments
-Dealing with parents
-Organizing recitals
We'll take care of all the boring stuff so you can focus on your students!
You will need to be able to play, have fun, and be a kid again. We are looking for the Bill Nye or Miss Frizzle of music teachers. Make mistakes, have fun, and get creative! Put a positive spin on everything! You will need to value fun in music lessons, and be willing to teach small groups.
You will be teaching 4 students at a time in an hour-long, lab-style class- working with each student individually at their own pace, and also with the group as a whole playing games, rhythm exercises, duets/ensembles, etc.
You will need to be flexible, upbeat, able to think on your feet, and make decisions and lesson adjustments in real time.
Attendance at our biannual student performances required.
This is a part-time position working 1-2 afternoons/evenings a week for our Mt. Vernon location.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
Our music lessons aren’t boring and you aren’t going to be the typical music teacher that requires a student to practice 30 minutes everyday and be perfect. You are here to make sure they have a fun and positive experience with music lessons. (Which includes making musical progress!)
As a part of Miss April’s Music, everything you do must be done in a way that gives the student a positive experience with music lessons. The way you teach. The way you interact with students. The way you interact with parents. The photos/videos you take during lessons. All of this must be done in a way that changes the world’s perception of music lessons. Don’t worry. We’ll help you with this. But you have to be open and willing. We want every student to be excited about music, glad they were a part of our studio, and thrilled that YOU were their teacher.
