About Missoula Interfaith Collaborative (MIC)
Founded in 2011, MIC is a diverse alliance of 35 faith institutions and community organizations who come together to pool resources and build collective power to address the most pressing needs of the community. Using broad based community organizing methods, we challenge the community to tackle issues, train leaders from everyday citizens, and work collectively to improve the world we live in. In addition to our community organizing efforts, MIC also responds to Missoula’s direct service needs running a 24-hour emergency housing program- Family Promise, a system of advocates who are everyday people who walk alongside and support people experiencing homelessness in their housing search-Housing Advocate Network, and Missoula’s only supportive staffing agency-Missoula Works.
Job Objective
Help ensure the success of the Housing Advocate Network (HAN) program by cultivating and supporting a network of volunteer leaders to build relationships with and assist individuals and families who are unhoused with finding housing, raise community awareness around the causes of homelessness, work together to change root causes of homelessness and conduct activities to create systemic change. Divert people from houselessness using training methods and funds restricted to this effort.
Reports to: Director of Housing Advocate Network
Position details: Full-time, hourly range $18-$20. Non-exempt, non-union position. Benefits include HRA reimbursement and generous PTO and holiday pay.
Duties:
· Coordinate and support walk-in volunteers at the Family Housing Center.
· Conduct participant intakes at the Family Housing Center and MIC offices.
· Facilitate volunteer/participant matches.
· Provide accountability, support and oversight to the HAN volunteer team.
· Divert qualifying people from houselessness using techniques and funding
restricted to this effort.
Required Experience and abilities:
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Knowledge of basic computer and communications software (Word, Excel, Zoom,
Microsoft 365).
· Driver’s license/Clean driving record.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and other Abilities
· Experience or degree in social work or related field, or willingness to develop basic
clinical and relational skills.
· Must be able to articulate and demonstrate a clear understanding of houselessness,
dynamics, and intervention.
· Must be able to work effectively with populations who have experienced being
unhoused, vulnerability, developmental delays, compromised mental wellness, brain
injuries, addictions and/or other conditions or situations that have impacted housing
stability.
· Must be willing and able to work with people from a variety of racial, cultural, and
economic backgrounds with various lifestyles, sexual orientations, and of all ages.
· Solution-focused, detailed-oriented, with strong organizational skills and capacity to
develop and manage systems that ensure accurate and timely follow-up and as
documentation.
· Action-oriented and innovative in approach to program planning; ability to work
effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people having passion, idealism,
integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.
· Knowledge of community resources and referral networks, and the capacity to
identify and develop relationships with new sources and services as they become
available.
· Understanding of systemic causes of oppression, community organizing and power
building, or a willingness to learn.
Physical Demands, Environmental Work Conditions, Equipment
Physical demands include sitting, keyboarding, and mouse use for extended periods. Equipment use includes driving company vehicle, office equipment including monitor, keyboard, and phone. Use of a company vehicle and driving short distances is sometimes required.
