We are seeking a Senior Property Underwriter and Project Manager for our small, but very important, organization in the Missouri insurance market.
We are the Missouri FAIR Plan, and we are looking for a very independent and experienced person in the insurance industry for a newly created position. Reporting to the General Manager, the Senior Property Underwriter and Project Manager will oversee a property insurance book and provide oversight, training, and development to other staff, as well as being involved in many special projects critical to the organization’s success.
We need someone that has the diversity of talent and skills to directly manage underwriting files, provide outstanding customer service to agents and insured, and also be involved in other aspects of the business such as claims, rating, policy forms, and resolving issues with software vendors.
Position requirements include but are not limited to:
§ Review, evaluate, approve, modify, or reject applications for new and renewal business.
§ Serve as producer contact and ensure that proper servicing, pricing, and monitoring of existing accounts and new business.
§ Provide outstanding customer service to insureds via email and telephone.
§ Review and develop Plan Manuals to ensure proper underwriting and compliance.
§ Assist in training and development of staff.
§ Monitor ISO forms and recommend changes as necessary to the General Manager.
§ Assist General Manager in monitoring rate levels.
§ Works with outside vendor to resolve issues and changes in Policy Management System.
Our successful candidate must be able to operate independently and collaborating with a small team in a small office environment. Effective interpersonal skills are essential. Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and translate complex insurance-related information into understandable solutions is a must.
Requirements for this position include a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college, with a preference for business and insurance majors. Five years of total insurance company experience is required with a background in underwriting, product management, or claims. A very strong knowledge of property insurance risk characteristics is essential. Leadership experience preferred. Progress toward an insurance-related designation is preferred.
The Missouri Property Insurance Placement Facility, also known as the Missouri FAIR Plan, was established in October 1969 for the purpose of making property insurance available to applicants who have not been able to secure such insurance on insurable property through the ordinary insurance market.
