What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Technical Engineer – Oilseed & Conveyor Systems position at Mitchells Equipment North America?
We are hiring a Field Technical Engineer to support the commissioning, start-up, and post-installation phases of our projects. This role involves hands-on, on-site involvement in conveyor system installation, equipment testing, operator training, and technical troubleshooting. You’ll serve as a vital link between our engineering team and the customer, ensuring systems are delivered and supported to the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support equipment installation and lead start-up/commissioning at customer sites.
- Conduct mechanical checks, system alignment, and function testing for conveyors and related systems.
- Provide technical training and operational guidance to customer personnel.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and system-level issues during installation and warranty phases.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for post-sale support and warranty matters.
- Work closely with engineering and project managers to report field performance, recommend improvements, and close out projects successfully.
- Document findings, corrective actions, and technical service reports clearly and professionally.
Required Qualifications:
- Technical degree or hands-on experience in Mechanical, Agricultural, or Industrial Engineering (or similar).
- 5 years of field experience in oilseed processing, grain handling, or industrial material conveying systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to read technical drawings and equipment manuals.
- Skilled in mechanical troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Self-sufficient and professional in field environments, including industrial plants.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently within North America (up to 50–75%).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with belt conveyors, chain conveyors, bucket elevators, and dust control systems.
- Familiarity with commissioning processes and start-up checklists.
- Knowledge of oilseed preparation equipment (cleaners, dryers, extruders, etc.).
- Prior experience working on capital equipment installation and OEM field service.
