Your Future Role:
As a greenhouse teammate, you will spend most of your day in a greenhouse working with plants and other greenhouse teammates. The greenhouse environment is designed to keep plants in warm and humid conditions, which are optimal for their growth. You may also work outside the greenhouse, working with dirt, watering plants, and lifting heavy objects in difficult weather conditions. Our greenhouse teammates provide day-to-day plant care, ensuring that plants receive correct levels of water, nutrients, light level and more. In addition, these teammates conduct inventories, pull material for shipping and load our delivery vehicles. This position is open for both of our facilities located in Minden, NV.
Your Specific Job Responsibilities:
- Upholds Moana Nursery's strict safety policies
- Shows up on time ready work
- Provide daily care to greenhouse and nursery plants to include, planting, transplanting, pruning, watering, fertilizing, controlling insects and disease, ventilating, and controlling weeds; manage plant nutrient levels.
- Prepares the soil to plant plugs, cuttings, bulbs and seeds, with the purpose of growing various types of plants
- Takes care of plants in our inventory as directed by manager
- Inspect plant material for disease and insect problems, light levels, temperature and humidity, nutrient requirements, and mechanical damage.
- Assist with data collection and maintaining records; notify supervisor of irregularities
- Spray, shade, and/or fumigate crops
- Prepare proper soil mixes as designated by supervisor.
- Move materials around the greenhouse such as soil, fertilizers, growth chambers, etc.
- Perform routine maintenance on and modifications to a variety of greenhouse and nursery equipment;
- Maintains irrigation systems, foggers, etc.
- May set up, adjust, and maintain devices such as irrigation control units and greenhouse control units.
- Maintains a clean and organized work space
Physical Requirements & Activity:
- Applicant must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Applicant must be able to stand and bend for long periods of time.
- Applicant must be able to work under sunlight for an extended period of time.
Expertise & Experience Requirements:
- Minimal experience required- passion for a plants a must.
Nice To Have Skills or Experiences:
- Experience or Education in Horticulture
- Experience or Education in Landscaping activities
Your Future Work Schedule:
During the spring and summer our Greenhouse is staffed 7 days per week with most activity taking place Monday - Friday from 7 am to 4 pm, and it may change depending on the time of the year . You typically will have a regular 40-hour workweek with consistent days, although it may be required to work overtime during busy periods, like spring season.
