Job Summary
The patient care technician provides basic nursing care to dialysis patients. The patient care technician is responsible to implement, monitor, and document patient care based on established criteria by NYSDOH and CMS. All care delivered is under the direction of licensed personnel. Patient Care Technician certification is required within 18 months of initial training and can be obtained through a national certification board. The position requires the ability to care for patients greater than 18 years of age. This ability is achieved through a knowledge of patient growth and development and an understanding of the treatment and care provided to dialysis patients.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Provides routine care to assigned patients in accordance with unit standards.
- Checks patient name band and identifies patient by name for any direct care activities, as observed by nurse manager or designee/supervisor.
- Assesses patient appropriately within job description parameters and reports findings to the licensed personnel.
- Maintains an organized and clean environment, in order to contribute to quality patient care.
- Responds to any patient requests, as observed by nurse manager or designee/supervisor.
- Carries out procedures as outlined in unit standards and completes performance checklists.
Education/Experience Requirements
Required:
- Completion of high school or equivalent.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
Required:
- Must obtain Patient Care Technician national certification within 18 months of start date to remain in this position.
Preferred:
- Nurse Assistant Certification highly desired.
