What are the responsibilities and job description for the Motor Equipment Operator position at Mohawk Valley Water Authority?
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work of this class involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation and care of moderately complex and specialized motor equipment, in the performance of a variety of assigned tasks. An employee in this class is also required to perform recurring manual duties related to the operation of the equipment, and to perform other equipment maintenance tasks as assigned. Supervision is received from a superior, who assigns tasks, and inspects the work in process and upon completion. Supervision may be exercised over Light Equipment Operators. The incumbent performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative Only)
Operates medium motorized equipment in connection with the hauling and placement of material for road construction and repair;
Operates a truck to transport work crew, tools and other equipment;
On assignment, operates a snowplow or related snow removal equipment;
Performs minor mechanical repairs on automotive equipment;
On assignment, operates bulldozer, grader, power shovel, or other heavy automotive equipment;
Services assigned vehicle and keeps maintained for clean condition;
Loads and unloads trucks;
Performs a variety of simple manual tasks, such as cleaning culverts, shoveling snow, painting, road and sewer maintenance work.
May maintain Traffic Control.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the operation of trucks, tractors and other types of automotive equipment; ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written instructions; mechanical aptitude; industry and dependability.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:
(A) One (1) year of experience in the operation of medium or heavy duty, moderately complex, specialized motor equipment; OR
(B) Two (2) years of experience in the operation of light automotive equipment, such as a car, pick-up truck, panel truck or station wagon.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Eligibility for NYS Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at time of application. Possession of valid Commercial Driver's License at time of appointment. This license must be maintained throughout appointment.
NOTE: Verifiable part-time experience as described above will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
