What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Registrar position at MoMA?
The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for an Associate Registrar. Reporting to the Registrar, Exhibitions, the Associate Registrar works independently on assigned exhibitions or collection tasks with responsibility for logistical arrangements pertaining to packing, transportation, customs clearance, and courier needs (travel, hotel, and per diem), for complex exhibitions involving foreign and domestic loans; acts as courier for loans/exhibitions; oversees tour of exhibition.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Contracts and supervises customs brokers, riggers, shippers, and crating companies.
- Participates in preliminary planning of exhibitions, attends planning meetings; compiles shipping and packing estimates.
- Works with Exhibitions Department on certificates of insurance; writes section on art handling, packing, and transportation for US Government Indemnity applications.
- Works with Conservation Department to inspect works on loan/collection works and prepares condition reports.
- Works with curatorial and Exhibition Production Department to create installation and de-installation schedules.
- Works with and directs new departmental members on assigned responsibilities.
- Maintains permanent archives of assigned projects for the Museum Collection and/or exhibitions.
- Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or bachelor of fine arts degree, master’s degree preferred, and minimum five years of experience managing progressively more complex registration projects, preferably in an art museum with ambitious exhibitions, acquisitions, and outgoing loan programs.
- General knowledge of 20th century art and familiarity with artist's materials.
- Strong detail orientation, with demonstrated ability to manage more than one active project concurrently.
- Proven organizational skills needed to coordinate complicated domestic and international projects.
- Experience with indemnified exhibitions.
- Must have the aptitude to work both relatively autonomously as well as anticipate the needs of the team.
- Reading knowledge of French and/or other language in addition to English.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Knowledge of and facility with various data management systems.
- Experience with TMS/Gallery Systems a plus.
Salary : The salary for this position is currently $86,474 per annum
