What are the responsibilities and job description for the MVP Academy Special Education Paraprofessional position at Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School?
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Provides assistance to participating Grade 11 and 12 students from Fitchburg, Gardner, and Narragansett Regional Schools who have been identified with disabilities.
•Assists students individually and in small groups within the vocational setting to help them master assignments, reinforce concepts, and develop skills presented by instructors.
•Collaborates with vocational teachers to define specific duties during instructional efforts.
•Collaborates with the MVP Program Office Manager to allow for seamless transitions and promotes open communication with students, families, and sending districts.
•Monitors the use of special modifications or accommodations for students with disabilities within their vocational program.
•Modifies and assists with the preparation of lesson materials, tools, equipment, and demonstrations.
•Assists the vocational teachers with implementing systems and modifying materials that will facilitate equal access to planned instruction and/or assessment.
•Provides students identified with special needs, as needed, with assistive technology and any assistance accessing the facilities.
•Scaffold instruction and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials.
•Collects data related to individual student goals within their IEP and interfaces with the sending district’s LEA contact to monitor progress.
•Persists, at all times, in a professional, pleasant manner of respect for the student with disabilities and in working with the program instructors.
•Monitors students for limited periods of time in the absence of the vocational instructor.
•Enforces administration policies and rules governing students.
•Maintains confidentiality of information concerning students and parents.
•Performs other tasks or duties assigned by the Director of Student Support Services.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position may require long periods of standing and sitting. The individual may be exposed to ultraviolet lights as are found in computer monitors and copying equipment. The individual may be exposed to various hazards in the building.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The work year is 183 days. This includes the day before the opening day of school, Tour or PD Day, and the 180 school days. Compensation will be established by the Superintendent-Director in accordance with the applicable salary schedule.
