What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Aid Specialist II position at Montana Tech?

 

Montana Technological University seeks an organized and detail oriented Financial Aid Specialist to be a member of the Financial Aid team.  This position coordinates on-campus student employment and manages student payroll information. This includes the following: processing student employment paperwork and timecards, providing access and monitoring student employee compliance training, effectively communicating with all departments and employers concerning student employment, monitoring work-study earnings to verify accuracy of funding paid, and ensuring that Montana Tech Student Employment Policy and Guidelines as well as Federal and State regulations are followed.

The Financial Aid Specialist will contribute to the efficient operation of a busy on-campus office by providing various support to the Director and other staff.  This individual will also meet with perspective students and families to provide information about financial aid.

Required Qualifications:

•    A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
•    At least 6 months of customer service experience
•    Ability to do highly detailed work
•    Strong organization, time management, and multi-tasking skills
•    High level of interpersonal communication skills – written and oral
•    Ability to problem-solve
•    Must be able to be granted access to federal aid databases, meaning cannot be in default on any federal loans

Preferred Qualifications:

•    Related work experience in an educational or financial setting
•    Knowledge of employment laws and regulations and payroll processing
•    Experience with financial aid policies and procedures
•    Experience with Banner
•    Experience with Etrieve or imaging system
•    Experience with E-Verify
•    Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment
•    Ability to work with a diverse group of people
•    Ability to develop access database queries to find data and improve processing
•    Ability to reconcile funds
