What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Caseworker (As-Needed) position at Montebello Unified School District?

GENERAL PURPOSE On an as-needed basis, under general supervision, works one-on-one with and supervises an assigned student(s) that has a severe emotional, physical and/or mental disability in order to monitor the student's behavior; observes, monitors and records student performance and behavior; and performs related duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS A Special Education Case Worker (As-Needed) performs the same functions as a permanent Special Education Case Worker on a temporary basis only in the absence of a permanent incumbent. Incumbents in this classification are utilized solely for the purpose of providing guidance to the assigned student in accordance with the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP).The as-needed assignment will end upon the return to duty of the permanent Special Education Case Worker employee. Placement in the as-needed pool for this classification has no end date. However, an employee of the District assigned to the as-needed pool for this classification may certify out his/her test scores for placement on an eligibility list for a permanent position in accordance with Merit system provisions of the State Education Code. The Special Education Case Worker (As-Needed) will remain at the first step of the appropriate salary schedule. A Special Education Case Worker is responsible for supervising and working one-on-one with an assigned student(s) to monitor the student's behavior and assist with behavior modification. Special Education Case Workers are expected to provide supervision and work with assigned students to modify problematic and disruptive behavior. Special Education Case Workers are distinguished from Instructional Assistants – Special Education in that incumbents in the former class specialize in working one-on-one with students with severe emotional, mental and/or physical disabilities. Education, Training, and Experience: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. One (1) year of experience working with severely emotionally, mentally and/or physically disabled special education children in an organized setting. Or some combination of education, training and experience that produces the requisite knowledge and ability. Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: Some assignments may require the ability to speak and write in a designated second language.
