Director of Advising
Reports to: Associate Vice President of Student Services
FLSA Status: Exempt

BASIC PURPOSE:
The Director of Advising works in collaboration with the Associate Vice President for Student Services to support vision, philosophy, and delivery of innovative and integrated student services through academic advising services. The Director of Advising is responsible for direct supervision of academic advising and transfer services teams. The Director of Advising will work collaboratively, and in conjunction with the Associate Vice President of Student Services, the Dean of Students, the Executive Director of Enrollment Management, the Coordinator of Advising and other College leadership team members, and colleagues to enhance enrollment management, retention, and onboarding of students through the academic advising process. Additionally, the Director of Advising provides support and leadership for student success initiatives related to strategic planning, advising redesign, retention, and staff training and development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide supervision and management for all advisors and advising initiatives through the daily operations of the Student Success Centers, which include data collection/analysis, schedule development and oversight, staff training, development and supervision, and budget management.
- Serve as the point-person and primary liaison between Student Affairs, Enrollment Services, Academic Affairs, Information Technology, Marketing, and Institutional Research for all advising inquiries and initiatives.
- Ensure consistent best advising practices in creating, updating, and implementing key advising philosophy, goals and initiatives which support student success.
- Work with faculty and staff to create and implement proactive student-oriented programs and protocols which support student success and retention.
- Develop transfer initiatives, programs, and knowledge base information for students through collaboration with University Center, Academic Affairs, and advisors
- Understand and develop statistical and/or data-supported reports necessary to manage the delivery of advising and student success initiatives.
- Oversee the schedule of advisors based on data, student needs, and advising model philosophy.
- Responsible for the completion of the performance management process of advisors and the collaboration with Academic Affairs of the faculty advisor student-evaluation system.
- Responsible for advising-related communication strategies including the portal, web site, other relational software, and printed materials for dissemination to the College community.
- Provide appropriate referral to specialized student services such as Wellness, Disability, and Tutoring Services as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in a related field required.
- Minimum 3-5 years administrative work experience required, preferably at a higher education institution.
- Supervisory and managerial experience working with unionized employees and work units preferred.
- Community college experience preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated success in planning and implementing special projects including grants, and entrepreneurial opportunities preferred.
