What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinarian position at Montgomery County SPCA?
The associate veterinarian works with the hands on Medical Director and has responsibility for providing high quality medical and surgical care for animals in the shelter.
Applicants must be able to promote teamwork, and communicate well with pet owners and staff members through verbal communication and detailed patient documentation.
The following are representative of day to day duties and responsibilities.
- Perform physical exams including temperature, pulse, respiration, body condition score for patients as needed
- Review and prescribe treatment for all animals in the shelter
- Maintain detailed veterinary notes on animals' electronic medical records
- Provide spay/neuter services to all shelter animals and during scheduled spay/neuter events open to the public
- Be on call for all emergencies as scheduled
- Respond to emergency calls as needed
- Work with managers to evaluate animals for adoptability
- Advise and assist new owners with medical and behavioral issues with their newly adopted pets
- Assist fellow veterinarians and veterinary staff with care of animals as necessary

This is a full time position and we are not seeking relief veterinary staff.
