Job Title: School Psychologist


Qualifications:

NC State Licensure in School Psychology and must have a degree (e.g., M.A., Ed.S., CAS or Ph.D.) in the field of school psychology. Completion of an approved program in school psychology at the sixth-year level.


Reports to:
Chief of Student Services Department and assigned School Principal


Purpose of Position:
School psychology is a field that blends the research and practice of psychology and education in order to help children and adolescents academically, emotionally, behaviorally, and socially. The School Psychology Program provides information and technical assistance regarding school psychology practice in North Carolina schools.


Responsibilities, Duties, & Expectations:

  • Work collaboratively with all school personnel to create a safe, positive learning community and assist in facilitating problem solving.
  • Provide leadership and collaborate with other school personnel to provide effective school psychological services.
  • Analyze and use local, state, and national data to assist in the development of prevention and intervention programs.
  • Assist student learning by working collaboratively with school personnel to design, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of core instruction and evidence-based interventions
  • Provide developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented strategies to nurture students’ relationships with caring adults.
  • Advocate for student and family involvement in the educational process at all levels.
  • Consider relevant individual differences (e.g., developmental level, cultural background, and area of disability) when selecting assessment procedures and when recommending educational services or interventions.
  • Provide and interpret information about relevant research findings to school personnel, parents, and the public.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of school-wide or system-wide early screenings, programs, and interventions based on needs assessments and other relevant data.
  • Collaborate and consult with education stakeholders to develop appropriate cognitive and academic goals for students with different abilities, strengths, needs, and interventions to achieve these goals through involvement in problem-solving teams or in school-wide screening efforts.
  • Collect and analyze student data to plan and evaluate the effectiveness of service delivery.
  • Assist teachers by selecting appropriate assessments to evaluate children for eligibility for special education and interprets those results for teachers to develop appropriate IEPs.
  • Based on current and relevant research findings and data, school psychologists’ adapt their practices to best meet the needs of students, schools, families, and communities, thus improving their practice.
  • Participate in district wide meetings such as MTSS, EC leadership meetings and individual evaluation meetings at their assigned schools.
  • Integral member of the EC leadership team and supports EC CIPP indicators

Evaluation and Measurement of Performance:

All staff are evaluated using the North Carolina Educator Effectiveness Systemalong with formal and informal observations by School Administration andCentral Office Administration.


Terms of Employment:

Ten-month contract with salary commensurate with the NC State Salary Schedule as outlined by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Full benefitspackage offered with full-time employment.

Salary : $69,600 - $88,200
