This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position reporting to the General Manager.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Operations Manager oversees marine and shoreside daily operations. Responsibilities focus on promoting and ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures and regulatory guidelines. The Operations Manager effectively works in an unsupervised capacity, ‘owns’ the job, and communicates effectively with both shoreside and afloat employees.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
Operations
- Ensure adherence to company policies and processes, including Moran's Safety Management System (SMS) as well as the Responsible Carrier Program and USCG requirements.
- Attend and schedule International Safety Management (ISM) Audits in conjunction with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).
- Schedule and attend routine Safety meetings, as well as organize Behavior Based Safety Meetings.
- Schedule weekly crews and ensure proper manning of tugs.
- Schedule and ensure 24/7 dispatch coverage for Division, and fill in for Dispatchers, if needed.
- Recruit, direct, train, develop, and evaluate personnel; ensure all crew licensing is up to date.
- Review tugs through informal inspections for proper documentation and operations in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
- Review, monitor, investigate, and follow up when needed with entries into claims database (Origami).
- Review, monitor, and follow up when needed with entries into OMS.
- Monitor ship docking line usage and keep an inventory as needed.
- Continually search for ways to reduce overhead costs and implement plans to reduce such costs.
- Communicate positively with potential customers, vessel agents, vendors, regulatory agencies, and internal Moran employees.
- Evaluate P&L and other financial reports to operate within monthly and annual budgets. Participate when directed in preparing the annual budget.
Engineering
- Review with Port Engineer and ensure all Preventative Maintenance tasks that cannot be performed onboard are entered in the repair order system and that training on these tasks is completed.
- Communicate with Corporate Engineering with recommendations for issues that cannot be addressed by local port engineering staff.
- Monitor engineer training to include orientations and instruction by port engineering staff.
- Assist in scheduling repairs, including coordination with port engineering staff for tug maintenance and repairs through outside vendors as needed.
- Ensure proper documentation and entries in OMS when repairs are completed.
- Review with Port Engineer and ensure that adequate spare parts are available for future repairs.
Accounting and Administration
- Approve invoices through COR360.
- Monitor Accounts Receivable and follow up with customers for collection.
- Monitor and approve Accounts Payable.
- Maintain required documents in personnel folders.
- Ensure month-end reporting accurately includes engine hours, number of jobs, and fuel consumption.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 2-year college degree.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.
- Valid driver’s license and Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
- Proven successful management experience and demonstrated strong leadership skills and decisive decision-making.
- Ability to work effectively individually and as a team member.
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to take initiative, multi-task, interpret data, speak publicly, operate in stressful situations, and make quick decisions.
- Demonstrated good judgment, initiative, and organizational skills.
- Must be able to travel when required.
- Intermediate-level Microsoft Office computer skills, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in transportation or marine engineering. Work experience will be factored with education.
- Operations experience in the maritime.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to: Board a vessel while moored via barge landing or underway via crew boat and withstand tug motion and high-temperature areas for periods of time; cross bulwarks, walk on uneven surfaces, and climb ladders and stairs; and stoop, bend, and sit for prolonged periods of time using a keyboard and computer screen.
