Responsibilities
The Production Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating all production departments. The value stream leaders and supervisors report to the Production Manager. S/he leads his reports in processing materials and manufacturing products to ensure safety, quality, delivery, throughput and cost targets are met or exceeded.The role reports directly to the Site Leader. S/he will be responsible to identify key improvement areas, support developing strategic plans, create visual management aids and standard work, aid management in root cause problem solving, and create Value Streams and associated value stream maps. The execution of these goals is assured using daily controls and visuals, measurement of KPI's, process change based on KPI, and the application and training of Lean tools (i.e.,5S, PDCA strategies, FMEA/RCCA, lessons learned, Value Stream Mapping, etc.).
S/he will create a strong culture of active leadership to deliver positive employee relations, creating an engaged workforce ensuring that products are manufactured on time to meet and exceed customer expectations, with a high level of focus on safety, and continuous improvement culture.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure all manufacturing activities are conducted in a safe and environmentally sound manner.
- Ensure that all products are consistently manufactured to the required quality standards, and support continual improvement efforts in product quality, including root cause analysis of customer complaints.
- Execute daily leadership of production teams using company mandated methods for review of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Productivity (SQDIP) targets.
- Collaborates with the Equipment/Facilities Manager to achieve uptime / MTBF / MTTR targets and together with his reports good Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
- Assess capacity and recommend resources to meet operational plans at optimum cost.
- Champions a strong EHS culture on site. Ensures staff are competent, adequately trained andsupported to enable them to carry out their duties safely.
- Champion a 6S method for an organized, clean, and safe working environment.
- Develop scheduling and capacity planning tools where necessary to improve lead time and delivery targets.
- Deploy tactical lean tools and Morgan Production Systems Framework, including the development of the MPS Framework
- Drive the process for development of X-Matrix/Strategy Deployment (Hoshin Kanri) within the site.
- Deploy LeanDNA across site to establish appropriate measurement systems, identify opportunities and quantify implemented improvements.
- Manage and maintain LeanDNA Initiatives, Metrics and Targets
- Work collaboratively with the Site Manager to support development of key frameworks.
- Lead by example with adherence to the Morgan Code at all levels of the organization. Create aclimate that fosters employee engagement, and motivation
- Support development and growth plans, identifies resource needs, supports succession planning,training, and recruitment, interviewing, and hiring.
Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in appropriate discipline and (3-5) years directly related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in manufacturing activities.
- Progressive managerial experience in Operations Management, inclusive of people management
- Demonstrated experience in performing a leadership role in a manufacturing facility
- Experience in working with kilning/furnace technologies, materials mixing, pressing is an advantage
- Lean/Six Sigma qualification is an advantage
Additional Requirements:
- Demonstrable supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment is essential.
- Proven leadership skills with a track record in developing manufacturing teams to deliver a high-performance culture.
- Experience with change management & new product introduction.
- Strong people management skills and cultural awareness.
- Mentor and coach individuals to implement change who are resistant to embracing new processes by using the tools within the Morgan Production System. Tools are not exclusively limited to MPS.
- Previous experience of working within a large organization is preferable.
- Experience of working and managing in a union work environment is a plus.
- An understanding of ceramic processing and /or product assembly is desirable.
- Proficient with MS Office products & experience with ERP Systems
- High level of oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of motivation and ability to manage several tasks at once.
- Ability to read blueprints a plus.
