*This is a grant-funded position with the potential for extension depending on future funding.


ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

The position of Success Advisor and Coach reports to the Director of Admissions and Advising and has no supervisory responsibilities.


PURPOSE/SUMMARY OF JOB:

The primary purpose of the grant is to expand educational opportunities for, and improve the attainment of all students, but focused on Hispanic, low-income, and first-generation students. The position is responsible for providing advising and guidance to students throughout the MCC service area from target populations as defined in the COSI grant. The position is responsible for maintaining complete records on activities and numbers of students served for reporting purposes. Must travel as necessary to carry out job duties and participate in occasional evening and weekend commitments. This position shall perform all duties while promoting opportunities for inclusion, expressing the valuing of differences, and regularly demonstrating the college's commitment to the Guiding Principles. This position is funded through the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative (COSI).


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide pre-collegiate support services for COSI target populations at each partner high school. This includes but is not limited to career exploration, college tours, financial literacy, advising, college-readiness skills, FAFSA assistance, and individual student support. Organizes community outreach and student success opportunities and activities. (80%)
  2. Works with high school partners to provide various summer bridge program opportunities targeting low-income, minority and first-generation students. (5%)
  3. Refer students to appropriate college and community resources for college and/or career development. (5%)
  4. Complete periodic reports and participate in COSI activities and meetings. (5%)
  5. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Admissions and Advising. (3%)
  6. Based on the functions, this position is a Campus Security Authority. As a Campus Security Authority, the incumbent is required to report allegations or awareness of Clery Act crimes to the Vice President of Student Services at Morgan Community College. Attends training pertaining to these responsibilities as required. (1%)
  7. All MCC employees are responsible for ensuring their work and educational environments are free from illegal discrimination, sexual harassment, and related retaliation. When alleged or suspected discrimination, sexual harassment, or retaliation is experienced or observed by, or made known to, an MCC employee, the employee is responsible for reporting that information to one of the following individuals: the Title IX Coordinator or the Deputy Title IX Coordinator. Attends training pertaining to these responsibilities as required. (1%)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An Associate's degree counseling, education, student services or a related field.
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse and/or at-risk students.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, prioritize, and effectively execute multiple initiatives, programs, and events. Able to meet established deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to establish and develop productive and collegial relationships, collaboration, and communication.
  • Ability to resolve complex problems and student issues, as well as work with confidential and sensitive information and records.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and verbally. Effective public speaking skills: ability to make group educational presentations.
  • Computer skill in Microsoft Office, presentation software, and an ability to utilize database tools to track monitor and organize students and communications.
  • Occasional long and irregular hours necessitated by special projects, compliance with deadlines, length of institutional day and wee, and committee service, including the ability to participate in evening and weekend commitments as necessary.
  • Ability to travel as necessary to carry out job duties.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution in counseling, education, student services or a related field.
  • Bilingual Spanish-English.
  • Experience working in financial aid, advising, admissions or other student services positions in higher education.

RESPONSIBILITY AND DECISION MAKING:

This position is responsible to carry out student enrollment support services including career exploration, admissions, academic advising, and registration. Coordinates, and performs early alert and retention initiatives for at-risk students. Mentors and serves as a resource for students. Will use discretion and professional judgment in working with students. Makes daily decisions about student enrollment, including problem resolution and interpretation of federal, state and institutional regulations, policies and procedures. The incumbent in this position will train and supervise Peer and Pro Mentors, and lead efforts advising transfer students.

Salary : $36,382 - $46,300
