What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer position at Morongo Casino Resort & Spa?

Job Summary

The Buyer will receive requisitions for purchase, place order and generate purchase order documents.  Communicate with other departments.  Collect information and source suppliers to effectively utilize company funds.  Schedule and hold supplier interviews and conduct supplier/vendor performance evaluations.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Receives requisitions and places orders.
  • Interviews vendors and negotiates pricing and payment terms.
  • Prepares written bid requests to suppliers.
  • Deals with vendors and manufacturers, which often involves persuading potential vendors to undertake the manufacture of custom designed items according to complex and rigid specifications.
  • Purchases high volume items and materials that cover extended contract periods.
  • Keeps abreast of market and product developments and interviews representatives for potential new sources of supply.
  • Receive requisitions, analyze for quality, specification and deliver requirements.  Request pricing and delivery from suppliers and place orders.
  • Evaluate suppliers through methods such as suppliers’ visitations and various objective performance measurements, including on time delivery, service performance and price performance.
  • Ensuring purchase order documents are complete, filed, logged and distributed to all appropriate departments.
  • Previous food and beverage experience preferred.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of classified information. Knowledge of all standard purchasing policies and procedures. Must be competent with various PC based software programs. Ability to operate standard office equipment. Ability to tactfully and diplomatically deal with the public and staff. Must possess excellent business sense and high professional ethics. Must possess a high regard for guest service and team member relations.  Strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to perform in fast paced and goal oriented environment.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or GED required. Some college preferred with course work relating to Business Administration. 

 

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation to obtain and maintain a gaming license issued by the Morongo Gaming Agency.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Reading, writing and public speaking skills are important to the successful conduct of this position. Ability to read, analyze and interpret contract agreements, technical reports, general business periodicals, professional journals or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add and subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, rates, ratio, proportions and percentages. 

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to apply legal, regulatory and procedure doctrine, concepts and policy to practical situations. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The team member frequently is required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The team member is occasionally required to sit. The team member must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The duties of this position are typically performed in an office environment with low to moderate noise, and adequate lighting. The casino environment has moderate to loud noise levels and is a smoking environment.

 

WORKING HOURS:

Because we are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, most positions require flexibility in scheduling and may require Team Members be available for evenings, weekends, holidays and special events. A typical workweek is 40 hours and normal work schedules may vary based on business needs and may include scheduled shifts Monday through Sunday. Position may require overtime.
