Purpose: The role of the Environmental Professional is to provide environmental and regulatory consulting, field services, and support the Environmental and Regulatory Services Project Manager.

Work Schedule: 9-hour days Monday-Thursday and 4-hour days Fridays; Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines, attend work related meetings, or project related travel. Position is eligible for a hybrid or remote schedule. 

Responsibilities:

  • Act as Responsible Charge for environmental and regulatory studies.
  • Serve as lead environmental investigator during field surveys.
  • Responsible for evaluating study scopes for appropriateness and completeness.
  • Responsible for preparing scientific and policy study conclusions, opinions, and recommendations
  • Communications - Consult/communicate with project management to assist with the coordination of project activities relative to the company’s scope of services. Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates - Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person. Communicating with key Project Personnel - Communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail.
  • Technical – Supervise and assist specialists and technicians with preparing environmental and regulatory reports and opinions.
  • Reconnaissance - Conduct preliminary project site reconnaissance for environmental and regulatory issues and assist in the development of project proposals and cost estimates.
  • Personnel Management - Supervise field personnel to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures relative to Safety & Operations.
  • Task Management – Determine and prioritize tasks for completion; monitor progress and adjust resources and schedules accordingly to meet project schedule and budgetary criteria.
  • Coordination - Coordinate with Environmental and Regulatory Services staff on scheduling environmental fieldwork.

Key Tasks:

  • Conduct environmental field surveys (i.e. wetland delineation, threatened and endangered species habitat, Phase I/II, and SWPPP inspections).
  • Prepare survey reports and statements of findings
  • Provide professional opinions to project management
  • Research existing and proposed environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work - Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish project tasks.
  • Guiding, Directing, and Motivating Subordinates - Providing guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
  • Performing Administrative Activities - Performing day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork.
  • Developing and Building Teams - Encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
  • Travel to and from project areas and/or meetings.
  • Project reconnaissance and site visits.
  • Developing Objectives and Strategies - Establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them.

 

Qualifications


  • Baccalaureate degree or higher in science or engineering and five years of relevant full-time work experience; or
    • Ten years of relevant full-time work experience; or
    • A current Professional Engineer’s (P.E.) License; or
    • A current Professional Geologist’s (P.G.) License; or
    • Other government license or certification to perform all appropriate inquiries as defined in the EPA AAI final rule.
  • Adept at conducting research into project-related issues and products.
  • Practical knowledge of environmental and regulatory issues.
  • Must be able to learn and understand new environmental and regulatory regulations.
  • Ability to communicate with regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to provide project presentations to clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Flexible during times of change.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in personnel and task management.
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment experience desired.
  • Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans experience desired.

Work Conditions:

  • Work may occur outdoors, under varying environmental conditions.
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Participation in training sessions, presentations, and meetings.
  • Frequent travel may be required for the purpose of meeting with clients, crews, contractors, or off-site personnel/management and to conduct project reconnaissance and site reviews.
  • Continuous use of adaptive communication including keen listening skills.
  • Ability to concentrate and simultaneously adapt to changing priorities on a regular basis.

Environment: Environmental Professional works alternates between the office and field environment.
