Visitor Services Associate
Category: Part-time Hourly Employee, nights and weekends
Reports to: Director of Operations
The Visitor Services Associate (VSA) is dually responsible for providing excellent security and visitor/customer service to all visitors.
No calls or in-person resumes will be accepted.
Security Responsibilities (abbreviated):
- Acts to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for all visitors/staff
- Acts to ensure that policies & procedures designed to protect Morven, its collections, property, staff, volunteers, contractors and visitors are followed properly
- Responds to emergency situations (CPR, First Aid & AED current certifications strongly preferred).
- Part of ensuring a safe and pleasant experience for visitors toMorven entails making sure the museum and its grounds are presentable.
Museum Shop Responsibilities (abbreviated):
- Sell museum tickets and retail items
- Responsible for opening and closing the register
- Price and replenish stock when necessary and note when items are out of stock
- Answer the phone, and when needed connect callers to the appropriate staff member
With this goal in mind, the VSA’s responsibilities include (but are not limited to) tasks such as:
- Minimal amount of shoveling/salting of snow/ice during inclement weather
- Removing outdoor recycling (trash)
- Cleaning/tidying rooms when necessary (i.e., after meetings, receptions)
- Restocking Museum restrooms (i.e., toilet paper, napkins)
- Restocks Museum pamphlets & brochures
Visitor/Customer Service Responsibilities:
- The VSA is often one of the only staff members to interact with visitors. Therefore, it is imperative that the VSA acts to ensure that all visitors are welcomed and enjoy a pleasant experience during their visit as the impression they make directly reflects Morven as an institution
- Functions as a museum guide, informing and educating visitors about Morven’s rich national history; covering a range of topics from pre-Revolutionary United States to the Present. For many visitors, the tour is one of the most memorable and central aspects of their visit to the Museum. Though the SVSA’s primary focus is on security & visitor/customer service, leading guided tours (when necessary) is also considered an essential duty.
- Interacts with all visitors/staff in a courteous and respectful manner at all times (i.e., providing helpful answers to questions)
- The VSA will also assist with data entry and other tasks as needed
Job Requirements:
- Must successfully pass a background check
- Ability to maintain professional composure at all times.
- Must be in good physical and mental health, able to remain standing for at least 60 minutes, lift at least 30 lbs., and must be comfortable/able to navigate in cramped and narrow spaces (in the event of an emergency).
- Must be able to work on weekends, certain designated holidays, extended hours, off-hours private events (nights)
- Must be flexible with scheduling and able to change plans on short notice (in the event of an emergency)
- Must have the ability to function effectively as a member of a close-knit team as well as independently
- Must have a High School diploma or GED (college degree strongly preferred)
- Must have reliable communication (cell phone & email) and transportation
- Must be a team player, adaptable, dependable, trustworthy, confidential, personable
- Must have 3 years of security experience and/or customer service experience
