Job Description:

Mountain Eye Partners is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will work alongside our experienced eye care professional to provide comprehensive care to our patients. This is a dynamic role that requires a strong foundation in ophthalmic procedures, excellent patient care skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment in both pediatric and adult patients.

Responsibilities:

- Perform accurate and detailed patient history taking, including chief complaints and medical history.

- Conduct various diagnostic tests and measurements, such as visual acuity, lensometry, tonometry, and pupillary assessments.

- Conduct refractions

- Assist in the administration of ophthalmic medications and eye drops as directed by the ophthalmologist.

- Prepare patients for specialized tests, such as visual field testing, OCT imaging, and fundus photography.

- Perform preliminary screenings for conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration.

- Maintain and calibrate ophthalmic equipment, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety standards.

- Educate and instruct patients on proper eye care, medication usage, and contact lens care.

- Assist with minor surgical procedures and in-office treatments, providing sterile instrument setup and post-operative care instructions.

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation in electronic medical records (EMR) systems.

- Collaborate closely with the ophthalmologist and other team members to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care.

- Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols, including proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.

- Stay updated with current industry trends, advancements, and best practices in ophthalmic technology and procedures.

-Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs

-May conduct phone triage for follow up or current patients

Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent required. Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician preferred (COT or COMT).

- Minimum of 1 year of experience as an ophthalmic technician in a clinical setting preferred

-Ability to perform essential functions of the position

- Knowledge of ophthalmic testing and procedures, including visual acuity, tonometry, lensometry, pupillary assessments, and refraction.

- Familiarity with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment, such as OCT, visual field, and fundus photography systems.

- Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with patients and colleagues.

- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in documentation and measurements.

- Knowledge of ophthalmic surgical procedures and sterile techniques is a plus.

- Commitment to providing exceptional patient care and maintaining patient confidentiality.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

- Ability to work with pediatric and adult patients

- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and procedures.
