Summary of Responsibilities: This position provides treatment for individuals with substance related disorders in accordance with the Alabama Department of Mental Health Substance Abuse Services Administrative Code. Services that can be provided by a QSAP II include diagnostic interview examination, service planning, individual and group treatment, recovery support services, referral, case management, client, family, and community education and screening/intake. All services shall be organized and provided according to evidence-based and best practice standards and guidelines.
Examples of Job Requirements:
- Implementation of individualized service plan strategies, ongoing individualized assessment services, motivational enhancement and engagement strategies, relapse prevention strategies, interpersonal choice/decision-making skill development, smoking cessation, crisis intervention, health education and gender responsive treatment.
- Assessment of client strengths and needs resulting in the development of a case plan with appropriate goals and expected outcomes.
- Assist clients with development daily living and recovery skills and development of a social network supportive of recovery.
- Actively promote and provide referrals and/or access to community support services.
- In residential programs, provide daily clinical services to improve the clients’ ability to structure and reorganize the tasks of daily living and recovery.
- Maintain appropriate written clinical documentation to support each service, activity and session provided within the scope of the program.
Required Qualifications: Must meet criteria for QSAP II as defined by the Department of Mental Health Substance Abuse Services Administrative Code, either (1) or (2) below:
- An individual who:
- has a master’s degree or above from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, counseling, psychiatric nursing, or other behavioral health area with requisite course work equivalent to such degrees, and
- has successfully completed a clinical practicum, and
- participates in concurrent clinical supervision by a QSAP I up until the attainment of substance abuse counselor certification credential from the Alabama Association of Addiction Counselors (AAAC), National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC), Alabama Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association (AADAA), or International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse, Inc. (ICRC). Certification must be obtained within two years of hire.
- An individual who:
- has a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, community, rehabilitation, or pastoral counseling, family therapy or other behavioral health area that requires equivalent clinical course work, and has two years of relevant clinical experience under the supervision of a QSAP I, or
- is licensed in Alabama as a Bachelor Level Social Worker or a Registered Nurse, and
- holds substance abuse counselor certification credential from AAAC, NAADAC, AADAA or ICRC.
