POSITION DETAILS
Job Title: Child Watch Attendant
Location: Gypsum Recreation Center (Gypsum, CO)
Schedule: Part-Time; Year-Round; shifts are Monday through Friday, 8:00am-12:00pm; 4:00pm-7:00pm
Work Environment: Work schedule is varied and may require evenings, weekends, and holidays. Hours vary depending upon specific childcare and youth program needs. The flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention much or all the time. Work requires continuous contact with infants, toddlers and children and requires a great deal of energy, patience, and flexibility. Frequent exposure to childhood illnesses poses slight health hazard. Physical exertion includes frequent walking, bending and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, pushing, pulling, and kneeling to lift children, equipment, and supplies. Job stress may include dealing with parents/patron, crowds, uncooperative participants, difficult individuals, exposure to illness and periods of continuous demand.
Supervision Required: Works under the direct supervision of the Gypsum Recreation Center’s Facility Supervisor
Supervision Exercised: None
Salary: $14.76-$18.45/hour DOE; staff in this position are eligible for a $1/hour incentive for Spanish/English bilingual and can pass the language competency test.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General Statement of Duties: Responsible for providing a safe and fun environment for children attending the Gypsum Recreation Center drop-in childcare facility, primarily supervising the activities of young children.
Examples of Duties:
- Provide a safe and fun environment in which both children and parents feel comfortable; provide corrective action as needed; actively participate in activities attached to program.
- Responsible for completing and reporting accidents or injuries occurring in the assigned area; completing required forms for each child placed in and removed from the Childcare Room
- Responsible for the enforcement of all childcare ang general facility policies.
- Communicate with the supervisor concerning cleaning supplies and program material needed.
- Develop positive relations with customers; communicate recreation programs information to participants and parents. Perform related work as required and assigned.
- Work is performed in accordance with established procedures and well-defined standard practices requiring some authority to select which methods are applicable in any given situation. Virtually all work is reviewed regularly while in progress and upon completion for accuracy and quality.
- Entertain the children with creative activities, games, etc.
- General knowledge of Recreation Center and activities offered.
- Inform supervisor of any known situation that may be hazardous to patrons or staff.
- Performs maintenance duties such as picking up toys/decorations, sweeping/mopping/vacuuming floors, wiping down counters, chairs, tables. Ensure cleanliness and orderliness of child watch area.
- Acts as a mandatory reporter and complies with mandatory reporting guidelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
Considerable knowledge of: General knowledge of child development and age-appropriate activities.
Skills and abilities:
- Effective communication skill
- Ability to work as a team player.
- Customer service skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while paying attention to detail.
Requirements:
Education and experience
- Minimum 15 years of age or older; AND
- High school graduation or equivalency or currently attending high school; AND
- Previous volunteer or work experience providing care for infants, toddlers, and children, preferably in a professional setting; OR
- Any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above-described duties.
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
Certifications
- May require possession of or ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
