Job Summary:
The Special Equipment/Substation Technician performs a variety of maintenance and service work on substations and equipment throughout MVEA s service territory along with performing the following duties:
Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for determining proper settings for substation metering and protective equipment, programming the devices and performing substation testing and checkout for new substations and substation additions. This includes wiring relay panels, control panels, and other equipment as necessary.
- Accountable for performing inspections, testing, maintenance, and repairs on substation equipment including transformers, circuit switchers, voltage regulators, feeder circuit breakers and reclosers, motor operators, battery chargers as well as line reclosers, sectionalizers, voltage regulators, and other special equipment. Testing of substation or other equipment may include taking oil samples.
- Performs testing and calibration of all relays and electronic controls on MVEA s system.
- Maintains inspection, testing and maintenance records for all work performed on equipment.
- Downloads event and load data from substation relays and recloser controls.
- Must be able to analyze complex technical problems, exercise sound judgment and arrive at appropriate decisions.
- Responsible for materials, supplies, equipment, tools, vehicles and other items used and takes steps for the proper accounting for and maintenance of such items.
Job Requirements:
- High School graduate or equivalent. Associates degree in electronics technology or a related field is desirable.
- Two years experience working with substation equipment, controls, and relays. Experience with line reclosers, regulators and associated controls is highly desirable.
- Maintain a valid Colorado Commercial driver license with appropriate endorsements.
- Well organized, detail oriented, able to exercise discretion and use sound judgment in dealing with people and confidential information.
- Stay up to date on policies, procedures, RUS specifications, National Electrical Safety Code, and other matters related to the assigned work.
- Keep current on all changes in first aid procedures, safety rules and regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be proficient at operating a computer, including the use of Excel, Power Point, and Word or comparable software programs.
The pay range for this position is between $31.34 and $48.23 per hour.
