JOB TITLE: College and Career Advisor
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Salary, Classified Staff
WORK DAYS: 210 Days
STANDARD HOURS PER DAY: 8 hours (not including an unpaid duty-free 30-minute lunch period).
WORK YEAR: The College and Career Advisor is scheduled to work all days that students are scheduled to attend school in addition to some weekends and summer school. The schedule will vary with the hours of Warren Central High School and the operating hours of the Journey of a Graduate Center. This is a grant-funded position and will be in place through June 30, 2028.
Typical hours will be Monday through Friday from 7:30 am - 3:00 pm; however, a schedule will be created bi-weekly to ensure needs are met. Examples of flexible schedules are below:

SUPERVISES: The College and Career Advisor does not supervise anyone.
General Summary Of Duties
Under the supervision of the School Counseling Department Chair, the College and Career Advisor is responsible for providing comprehensive guidance and support to students and their families in the pursuit of post-secondary education and career goals. This includes advising students and families on college selection, application processes, financial aid, and career exploration. The advisor will also collaborate with the College Access Navigator in planning and facilitating college visits, career fairs, and other college and career events while maintaining accurate records and data.
Essential Functions
While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.
Sensory Requirements: Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communication ability. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds.
Environmental Factors: Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.

Performance of this job will be evaluated by provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluations of Professional Personnel.

- Some Saturday hours will be 9:30 am - 12:30 pm For weeks with scheduled Saturday hours, the advisor will flex three hours in the M-F before Saturday.
- Some evenings Journey of a Graduate Center hours will be from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm For days with evening hours of the JoG Center the advisor will adjust their schedule that day to 10:30 am - 6:00 pm.
- Schedule of evening and weekend days will be scheduled at least 3 months in advance.

- Student Guidance and Advising
- Guide students in identifying career interests and college majors.
- Assist students in researching colleges and universities.
- Provide information on various career paths and industry trends.
- Advise students on the college application process, including essay writing, personal statements, and recommendation requests.
- Help students navigate common application platforms and specific college applications.
- Assist students with specific questions and concerns related to college and career planning.
- Application and Financial Aid Support
- Assist students in meeting application deadlines and requirements.
- Assist in requests for transcripts and recommendation letters.
- Educate students and families on financial aid options, including FAFSA, scholarships, and grants.
- Assist students in completing financial aid applications.
- Programs and Initiatives
- Assist 21st Century Scholars in completing annual ScholarTrack requirements.
- Monitor the annual progress of all 21st Century Scholars.
- Promote college and career readiness throughout the district, engaging students and families in grades PreK-8.
- Organize college and financial aid readiness parent workshops and information sessions in collaboration with the College Access Navigator.
- Coordinate and facilitate activities and events within the Journey of a Graduate Center.
- Train students and families on using Xello to explore careers, colleges, and scholarships.
- Utilize Xello data to identify trends and inform program planning.
- Outreach and Community Engagement
- Participate in outreach events and fairs to promote college and career readiness.
- Provide resources and support to families throughout the college application and financial aid process.
- Connect with students and families in the community.
- Program Monitoring and Administration
- Monitor student participation and progress in the program.
- Maintain records of student and family services and share this information with the school counseling team.
- Professional Development and Collaboration
- Conduct workshops, and large and small group lessons on college admissions, financial aid, and career exploration
- Attend professional development to maintain:
- Up-to-date knowledge of state graduation requirements, financial aid, and college admissions trends.
- Skills related to college and career advising best practices.
- Participate in Counseling Department Meetings, staff development days, and other professional learning opportunities provided through the district.
- Attend all staff meetings.

- Performs related duties as directed.
- EDUCATION/TRAINING: An Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree is required.
- EXPERIENCE: General experience working with high school-aged students is preferred.
- CERTIFICATIONS &/OR LICENSES: Valid Driver’s License.
