What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary Teacher position at Mt. Erie Christian Academy?
A qualified teacher demonstrates an understanding of developmentally appropriate
practices for students preparing for an advanced curriculum in any grade between
Kindergarten and 5
th Grade. The teacher is responsible for interacting with children
and their families, implementing and observing developmentally appropriate curriculum
that exposes children to language and literacy, math, science, art, music, as well as
religious and cultural studies. The teacher is assigned to a designated classroom and is
responsible for ensuring that the room is set up to reinforce and challenge students on the
curriculum, as well as reflect themed projects. Teachers prepare and implement daily
schedules, lesson plans to ensure the growth and development of children in their care, to
include the use of the onsite Media/Library Center and Science Lab. The Teacher assists
the administration and other teachers in planning and preparing for off-site programs,
events, school activities, and field trips to ensure the children are getting the most out of
the opportunity.
Overview Teacher Duties:

-Be willing to learn and facilitate the ABEKA curriculum
- Be a role model of Christian love, faith, truthfulness, and virtue, both in the classroom
and in personal life.
- Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use
both in learning activities and in imaginative play.
- Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, menta,l and social
development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, and storytelling.
- Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress and needs,
determine their priorities for their children, and suggest ways that they can promote
learning and development at home. Complete quarterly progress reports and maintain
student assessments and portfolios.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and
interests. Methods should establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects,
and teachers should communicate those objectives to children. Employ a variety of
methods that will provide for teaching to reach the whole child: spiritual, academic,
physical, and social.
-Prepare weekly bible lessons and memory verses for children to learn for Chapel
presentations.
- Arrange indoor and outdoor space to facilitate creative play, motor-skill activities, and
safety. Organize and label students' work areas, materials, and display students' work in a
manner appropriate for their ages and perceptual skills.
- Confer with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons, individual activities,
group projects that promote learning, approved curricula, extension materials, and
community outings.
-Be willing to work as a team member in planning lessons and using the onsite Computer
Lab, Science Lab, Library, Art Room, and Physical Education
-Prepare students and be available for Student Presentations and Parent Meetings after
school hours, 4-5 times a year

Education Requirement: A Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a similar field
Experience Requirement: A minimum of 2 years prior experience working as a teacher.
Minimum Position Requirements:
- Live Scan
- CPR and First Aid Certified (can be completed within 30 days of hire)
- TB Test
Physical Requirements:
- Able to be comfortable with prolonged sitting and standing
- Able to lift and hold up to 50 lbs.
- Able to squat to a child’s height and maintain eye contact at a child’s level
- Able to sit on the floor or in a chair for prolonged periods
- Able to bend and reach from the floor, waist, and above the head several times
throughout the day
- Able to do lifting and walking, as needed, to support program needs
- Able to model the physical requirements asked of kids.
