Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Field Instructor to join our team. This seasonal, part-time role is an ideal entry-level opportunity for educators who want to focus on teaching. You will deliver our established curriculum, allowing you to prioritize student engagement and outdoor discovery without the demands of curriculum design or extensive administrative work.
Responsibilities
- Lead K-8 outdoor science lessons and deliver established curriculum and lesson plans.
- Support safety and engagement during programs, ensuring the well-being of students at all times.
- Assist with expedition day logistics, including setup, cleanup, and gear management.
- Maintain equipment and supplies, as well as print and digital resources.
- Support student assessments and data collection.
- Collaborate with chaperones to support student learning and engagement.
- Support the specific needs of the group as directed by the Lead Instructor.
- Attend all mandatory training and orientation sessions for the position.
- Complete administrative tasks, such as submitting reports and mileage logs.
Qualifications
- A passion for environmental education and the Muddy Sneakers mission.
- Availability to attend all required training and orientation sessions.
- Knowledge of K-8th grade science and teaching methods.
- Knowledge of local natural history.
- Confidence navigating and teaching in outdoor settings.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Current Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder certification, as well as Child and Adult CPR (may be obtained through Muddy Sneakers).
- Willingness to enroll in or current certification in an approved environmental education certification program.
