Medical Insurance Specialist

Location: 819 Little Britain Road, Suite 100, New Windsor, NY 12553

Job Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Medical Insurance Specialist to manage insurance verification, prior authorizations, claims processing, billing coordination, and patient account support. The ideal candidate understands medical coding, payer guidelines, and healthcare billing processes, ensuring accurate reimbursement and excellent patient service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage, prior authorizations
  • Submit and track medical insurance claims
  • Review claims for accuracy, coding compliance, and required documentation
  • Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and resolve discrepancies
  • Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status and payments
  • Post payments, adjustments, and reconcile accounts
  • Assist patients with billing questions, payment plans, and insurance inquiries
  • Maintain accurate patient and billing records in EMR/billing systems
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and healthcare regulations
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to resolve billing issues

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree preferred
  • 1–3 years of experience in medical billing, insurance, or healthcare administration
  • Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS coding and insurance regulations
  • Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans
  • Proficiency with billing software and Microsoft Office
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

Preferred Certifications (Optional)

  • Certified Professional Biller (CPB)
  • Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS)
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
