The school serves more than1,550 students in grades K-12 on four campuses in Malden: Kindergarten at 576 Eastern Avenue; the lower school (1-8) at 770 Salem Street and the high school (9-12) at 238 and 306 Highland Avenue. The school draws students primarily from the cities of: Everett, Malden, Medford, Melrose, Stoneham and Wakefield. The school has adopted the extended day and extended school year model in which classes go from 8:00 to 3:30 each day of a 200 day school year.
Job Summary
Our school needs a School Nurse to care for our students. We’re looking for a caring, compassionate, experienced professional who loves taking care of children and excels at communication and engagement. The position requires administrative work as well as one-on-one time with students, and we’re looking for an individual who truly cares about making our school a better place for our students.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Evaluate patients who complain of specific ailments
- Call parents to suggest they pick up patients who might be uncomfortable or who might have developed a contagious illness
- Educate students on hand washing, germs and other health care and safety issues
- Examine and authenticate vaccination records
- Contact parents and teachers with any medical emergency
- Develop and manage school health and wellness program
- Maintain files on each student’s health and medical history
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor of Nursing required
- 2 years’ experience at a school or in an educational environment
- Impeccable organisation skills
- Able to establish rapport with students and their parents
