The Benefits Assistant supports the daily administration of complex clerical work in the Benefits Department. The Benefits Assistant is responsible for providing day-to-day benefits support to all business units and serves as the main point of contact for benefits-related inquires and requests.
Job Description : ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
Medical and Dental Plans :
- Monitor and maintain employee / retiree / dependent eligibility records on a monthly basis with all providers
- Assist employees and retirees with coverage and claim questions
- Assist locations in enrollment of new employees, which includes generating enrollment forms and processing family status changes; includes communicating these changes to the various providers
- Update eligibility and payroll files with family status changes
- Assist retirees with enrollment in medical plans and Medicare
- Communicate regularly with COBRA administrator regarding participant eligibility
- Coordinate and process all medical, dental, vision, FSA, and COBRA billings, both weekly and monthly
- Oversee the weekly interfaces for all lines of benefits (i.e., weekly electronic enrollment file to medical insurance provider)
- Set-up / monitor retiree medical, disabled medical, and surviving spouses' process log and monitor receipts of premium payments, and for direct payments, create vouchers for deposit of checks
- Coordinate with payroll on payments for employees on leave of absences; take actions accordingly
- Administer Health Care (HCRA) and Dependent Care Reimbursement Accounts (DCRA); process invoices from Third-Party Administrator, including an allocation of medical and dental billings and administrative fees among the various locations (weekly) based on location of employees / retirees / dependents
- Work with administrator in resolving claim issues
- Regularly update administrator on eligibility changes and enrollments
- Review spending accounts at year end and notify employees of remaining balances
- Advise employees regarding covered expenses and filing issues
- Assist HCRA and DCRA plan participants on covered expenses and filing issues
- Prepare annual mailouts for Medicare eligibility, retiree open enrollment, ACA 1095 distribution
