NAMI Broward is seeking a compassionate and experienced Peer Mentor to join our team.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a part-time Peer Mentor to provide peer support services to the Haitian population. The successful candidate will be a bilingual Creole speaker who can provide one-on-one support, lead support groups and outreach efforts. The ideal candidate will be a consumer of behavioral health services and is ready to use their own mental health journey to help reduce the stigma and provide support to those in the Haitian community.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one peer support services to individuals in the Haitian community
- Lead support groups and classes for individuals with shared experiences and challenges
- Offer emotional support, guidance, and advocacy to individuals in need
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure comprehensive support services
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to organizational policies and procedures
Requirements:
- Consumer of behavioral health services
- Strong understanding of the cultural nuances of the Haitian community
- Fluency in Haitian Creole and English (written and spoken)
- Experience providing peer support services or leading support groups
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in a related field preferred
- Reliable transportation
- Laptop equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with marginalized or underserved populations
- Knowledge of community resources and services
- Certified Peer Recovery Specialist
- Hourly rate ($17.50 - $35.00 per hour)
