The Student Engagement Specialist is a teaching position directly under the supervision of the principal and assistant principal. This position is responsible for providing interventions for students who struggle with attendance and academic, social-emotional and/or behavioral expectations of school. The goal of this role is to provide the strategies and support to increase student engagement in learning, leading to full participation and credit accumulation toward high school graduation. A restorative mindset and flexible, empathetic philosophy are imperative to maximize interactions with students. Candidates must be able to work closely with families, staff and administrators to address students’ needs. Strong academic skills in high school curriculum are key for academic support. The Student Engagement Specialist must be organized, data- oriented and committed to student success.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•Certification RIDE Secondary Education (preference for English, Math and/or Social Studies)
•Successful direct experience with children exhibiting social, emotional and behavioral challenges.
•Understanding of critical practices and systems of positive behavior support. Ability to develop systems to set goals, monitor progress, and implement interventions aligned to data.
•Evidence of successful engagement with families and students.

•Sensitivity to students’ social, emotional and behavioral challenges.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Provide a learning environment that is safe, respectful and effective for meeting students’ learning and social/emotional/behavioral challenges;
2.Provide supplemental academic instruction in compliance with CCSS at multi grade levels
5.Develop plans and implement evidence based behavioral practices with fidelity and accountability;
6.Intervene in disruptive, destructive and self-injurious behaviors to self or others by implementing safe, effective crisis management therapeutic techniques in a timely manner;
7.Work collaboratively and supportively with families, faculty, administrators and outside treatment teams;
8.Model and implement inclusionary-based interventions in collaboration with classroom teachers;
9.Redesign environments to increase the likelihood of behavior intervention plan success;
10.Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural differences in social interaction patterns and styles;
11.Enhance students’ personal and social success by teaching social skills;
12.Consult with staff on the integration of interventions to improve outcomes
13.Oversee credit recovery for high school students
14.Maintain student records and protect their confidentiality;
15.Participate in school-based teams and attend IEP/504 meetings
16.Teach and encourage prosocial skills and behaviors;
17.Perform other tasks as may be assigned by the Principal or the Director of Student Services.
