Overview:The Nashville Film Institute is seeking a passionate and experienced Directing Instructor to join our innovative faculty. This role is ideal for a working professional who wants to share their real-world expertise with the next generation of filmmakers in a collaborative and hands-on environment.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong professional background in directing for music videos, television, commercials, or film, with significant on-set experience as a Director, 1st Assistant Director, or 2nd Assistant Director. This instructor will lead students through the creative, technical, and leadership aspects of directing focusing on script interpretation, shot composition, actor direction, and collaboration with crew departments.
Key Responsibilities:- Teach and develop curriculum for Directing courses across multiple media formats
- Guide students through the full directing process from script breakdown to performance blocking and camera coverage
- Share industry insights on working with actors, assistant directors, and department heads
- Encourage creative thinking, problem-solving, and strong storytelling technique
- Provide constructive feedback and mentorship on student projects
- Maintain a safe, creative, and inclusive learning environment

- Collaborate with other faculty (Cinematography, Production Design, Post Production, etc.) on cross-functional projects
- Extensive industry experience as a Director, 1st AD, or 2nd AD on major productions (music video, television, commercial, or feature film)
- Strong leadership and organizational skills on set
- Prior teaching or mentorship experience preferred, but not required
- Proficiency in shot listing, blocking, storyboarding, and script analysis
- Familiarity with directing tools and technologies, including camera systems and editing workflows
- Canvas LMS knowledge and prior instructional experience highly preferred
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree required in Film, Media Arts, or a related field
- Union affiliation (e.g., DGA) or notable industry directing credits
- Experience directing across multiple genres and formats
- Experience teaching in post-secondary education or film training programs
