What are the responsibilities and job description for the Curator position at National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum?
POSITION SUMMARY: The National Baseball Hall of Fame seeks a Curator to help create permanent and changing exhibits at the museum, on the road, and on the web, including a new permanent exhibit about the Black baseball experience, which will help broaden and deepen the Museum. This position requires strong expertise in the history and contributions of diverse cultural groups, particularly African-American history and culture, ideally including knowledge of the history of Black baseball and will contribute to the organization’s ongoing efforts in Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Inclusion throughout the Museum’s exhibits and offices. This is a full-time exempt level position and will report to the Senior Curator.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Work as a key member of the Curatorial Department in the exhibit process, from concept to development to implementation.
• Work as a member of the curatorial team on exhibits, while also rotating as Lead Curator on specific exhibits as assigned.
• Help maintain, update and revise exhibit and exhibit components, both physical and virtual.
• Write and create baseball-related content for various HOF outlets, including the HOF website, social media channels, mobile applications, and various HOF print publications.
• Contribute to the organization’s ongoing efforts in Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Inclusion throughout the Museum’s exhibits and offices.
SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
• As assigned, work on specific projects with other departments.
• Assist in compiling research related to artifacts and archival material in the collection.
• Assist in implementing and giving behind-the-scenes tours to various VIP members of the baseball profession, potential donors, and potential business partners.
• Give public presentations on various aspects of the history of baseball and the Baseball Hall of Fame.
• All other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION – Undergraduate degree required, Graduate degree in history or museum studies preferred (or equivalent experience in a museum setting)
EXPERIENCE – One to three years curatorial or other equivalent lived experiences preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES –
• Excellent knowledge of baseball history.
• Excellent knowledge of the history and contributions of diverse cultural groups, particularly African-American history and culture. Ideally this includes knowledge of the history of Black baseball, as the Museum’s goal of mounting a new permanent exhibit about the Black baseball experience is a very high priority. As such, a history of illuminating experiences within the culture is critical.

• Sound judgment.
• Interest in and commitment to the mission of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
