What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at National Firestopping Solutions?
This position is responsible for the preparation of proposals and estimates for Firestopping, Door Installation, and Door Repair projects. This individual will review requests for proposal (RFP’s), specifications and plans to determine the scope of work, materials, compliance factors, and other conditions required to fully understand the commitment and costs associated with each project. This individual is responsible for the preparation of all required proposal elements and soliciting approval from appropriate NFS leaders prior to submission.
This key position requires understanding of construction estimating, including regular interaction with customer representatives, construction managers, subcontractors, and material vendors. Additionally, the estimator must be self-motivated with a strong aptitude to work independently and broad understanding of market variations across regions.
Role & Responsibilities
Project Estimating/Job Procurement:
- Plan, organize, and coordinate all functions of the estimating process:
- Weekly strategy and development of proper channels for the discovery of new estimating opportunities for NFS
- Review project plans and specifications for accurate bid assessments and estimates
- Complete take-offs
- Prepare a complete listing of all costs including labor, materials, equipment, compliance, and any other special requirements necessary to complete each project
- Coordinate insurance requirements and RFQ paperwork
- Participate in the transfer of information to team members; including, but not limited to project kick-off Meetings
- Timely and accurate documentation of current and past company estimates
- Solicit current/updated subcontractor and supplier information for accurate pricing
- Pricing of change orders and project impacts
- Assistance with the project’s pre-qualification documentation and other project requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must possess a strong, independent work ethic
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office computer software
- Experience working with estimating/takeoff/bid software (Procore/Autodesk/ProEst/BlueBeam etc.) a plus
- Working knowledge of NFPA 101: The Life Safety Code and IBC code/regulations
- Working knowledge of firestopping applications, systems, and materials
- Expert aptitude in reading and comprehension of design plans and specifications
- Ability to work in a team environment and deliver accurate results within tight deadlines
- Ability to prioritize/manage multiple tasks and changing priorities as necessary
- Ability to travel to jobsites during regular work hours to assess job requirements
- Must have strong organizational skills and possess the ability to meet strict deadlines
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies
Requirements:
- Typical workday is 7:30-4:00, with occasional work outside of typical hours necessary
- Must be willing to travel occasionally
- Must meet one of the following criteria:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or equivalent with some estimating experience
- Associate’s degree in related field and 2 years of estimating experience
- 5 years of field experience and minimum of 2 years of estimating experience
