WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU
SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Quality Engineering to lead our QA organization within the technology department. As Director of Quality Engineering, you will oversee aspects of quality assurance processes for NHL internal developed applications ensuring the delivery of high-quality products and services.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leadership, driving quality improvements, implementing automation solutions, and working cross-functionally in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You will work closely with Product, Engineering, and Operations teams to ensure that quality is embedded at every stage of the software development and release processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Strategy:
- Drive strategic approach for QA processes, standards and best practices at the NHL
- Oversee the on-shore/off-shore QA team, including automation engineers, manual testers, and quality analysts
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and improve quality processes, efficiency, and team productivity
- Foster an environment of continuous learning and improvement by promoting training, certifications, and knowledge sharing
Quality Assurance Processes:
- Develop and implement QA processes, standards, and best practices, ensuring that they are well integrated into the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
- Ensure that test plans, strategies, and automation frameworks are aligned with the latest technologies and methodologies (e.g., Agile, DevOps, Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment)
- Drive the adoption of automated testing tools and frameworks to enhance test coverage, efficiency, and reliability
- Manage defect triage processes and collaborate with development and product teams to ensure timely resolution of issues
Product & Risk Management:
- Implement testing and user acceptance testing (UAT) processes, integrating feedback from real users to ensure product-market fit and usability
- Ensure compliance with industry standards for digital platforms, including accessibility (WCAG), data privacy (GDPR, CCPA), and security
- Implement and manage user acceptance testing (UAT) processes to ensure product performance aligns with customer expectations
- Ensure QA processes support the scalability, security, and performance needs of large-scale, high-traffic applications
Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
- Stay current with the latest trends in quality assurance, testing tools, and methodologies, leveraging new techniques to enhance quality
- Drive continuous improvement efforts to optimize test strategies, coverage, and overall quality engineering efficiency
- Lead initiatives in building frameworks for automated testing, performance monitoring, and reporting
Vendor Management:
- Manage relationships with external vendors for QA-related tools, platforms, and services
- Evaluate and select software testing tools and automation frameworks that align with company needs
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge Areas/Experience
Required
- 10 years of experience in software quality assurance, with 3 years in a leadership role
- Proven experience in managing large-scale, complex QA teams, with a focus on automation, performance, and security testing
- Deep knowledge of testing methodologies, tools (e.g., Selenium, JIRA, TestRail), and frameworks (e.g., Agile, DevOps, CI/CD)
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycles and quality assurance’s role in continuous delivery models
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with a track record of building high-performing teams
Education/Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field

- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

SALARY RANGE:
$130-170K
Actual base pay for a successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to: experience/training, market demands, and geographic location.
