Role and Responsibility
The Program Specialist, Research works to further the successful coordination and implementation of research and data analysis in the Center for Research and Data Analysis on the Research Team across a variety of policy areas that impact cities.
Program Research
- Conduct background research and literature reviews
- Drive research projects from conception to publication
- Support the development and implementation of data collection (focus groups, interviews, surveys, etc.)
- Support the cleaning and preparation of data for analysis
- Contribute to/coordinate the development of data visualization
- Support in drafting of NLC publications including reports, blogs and briefs based on findings from data analysis
- Collaborate with staff across the organization, and particularly within the Center for Research and Data Analysis, to provide guidance and support in research and data analysis for publications
Program Education, Outreach and Events
- Provide support for meetings and event planning related to assigned projects in collaboration with senior NLC conference and meeting planners.
- Assist senior staff in developing content for program-specific events and meetings, as well as program workshops and activities at annual NLC conferences for assigned projects.
- Organize conference calls, webinars, presentations, and other activities for program team members, peer networks, city officials, and other partners and stakeholders as needed to support execution of research process.
Perform other duties and lead special projects as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Proficiency in research methods, primarily qualitative data collection and analysis
- Proficiency in MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- 1 year of practical experience in research and analysis, preferably in a non-profit association or organization (can be completed while working toward degree)
Preferred:
- Proficiency in data analysis and visualization programs and software, such as STATA, R, Arc GIS, etc.
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, public administration, sociology, or a related field
- Experience working with city officials and/or city governments
Work is typically performed in a standard office sitting at a desk or table on a level surface. Regular travel is expected (2-3 times/year). May be required to work more hours than normal during a regular workweek depending on workload and deadline requirements.

WORK LOCATION
This hybrid position is based in Washington, DC, and requires three days on-site at our NLC headquarters.
SALARY RANGE
$50,000-$68,000
