Job Description The Supervisor of the Central Monitoring Station at NREL will lead the activities of Emergency Communication Specialists (ECS), ensuring the safety and security of NREL’s workers, visitors, facilities, and the environment. This role serves as the primary conduit of information between emergency response and the NREL community. The Supervisor will manage the operations of NREL's Central Monitoring Station (CMS), ensuring all ECS personnel are effectively trained, supported, and supervised while fostering a positive and professional culture. Key Responsibilities: Manage daily CMS operations, ensuring continuous monitoring of fire/life safety alarms, security systems, and surveillance systems. Ensure ECS personnel effectively respond to emergencies, determining appropriate response levels, contacting 911 when necessary, and dispatching internal responders. Knowledge and ability to apply proven effective management practices. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong multitasking, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress situations, exercise critical thinking and sound judgment, and prioritize emergent and non-emergent situations. Proficiency in quickly and accurately entering detailed information, with the ability to type quickly while receiving data or information via phone, radio, or other electronic devices. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and the ability to learn and use specialized software. Ability to prioritize work and maintain a high level of confidentiality in handling both emergency situations and day-to-day activities. Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level clearance, which includes a drug screen and government security investigation. A working knowledge of DOE O 151.1D, Comprehensive Emergency Management System, is desirable. Effectively uses judgment. Skilled decision maker. Certification and/or degree in specified field is required. Knowledge of legal and ethical management issues and practices. Strong understanding of applicable field of expertise. Demonstrated ability to make appropriate decisions regarding day-to-day work activities. Promotes and models ethical and professional interpersonal and business behaviors. Additional Required Qualifications A high school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of seven years of experience in security, safety, or emergency response, including the use of dispatch, radio, and computer network systems. Ability to obtain specific certifications related to emergency management and communication systems within six months of hire, including IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, or an NENA/APCO equivalent. Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week) Job Profile: Manager I / Annual Salary Range: $73,200 - $120,800 NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees.
