Assistant General Counsel

 

The Assistant General Counsel provides legal advice and legal services through the office of General Counsel at Nationwide Children's Hospital (NCH) for the benefit of NCH, its subsidiaries, and related companies. The Assistant General Counsel serves as a consultant, legal advisor, advocate, and defender, in a manner consistent with the mission, values, and strategic objectives of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Reviews, negotiates, and assists in the development of Hospital agreements and contracts with an emphasis on agreements such as IS/IT, EULAs, SaaS, subscription, SLAs, Business Associate, data sharing/use, and property management, landlord leasing, and MOUs with community partners. • Assists in supporting the integration of risk management and quality control activities to create an environment that minimizes legal risk to the Hospital, including reviewing, implementing, and monitoring Hospital’s risk management programs and insurance programs. • Provides support to staff members related to subpoenas and other court documents. Provides support to the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Integrity and Compliance Program. • Provides legal review, analysis, and advice with respect to the legal implications of Hospital policies, procedures, processes, and decisions. • Assists in the preparation and defense of litigation, including the preparation and filing of pleadings and discovery, preparation of staff for their roles as witnesses, and the development of strategy. • Performs legal research and analysis to provide recommendations to General Counsel and other attorneys and/or internal clients. May build creative, practical, and effective solutions to issues with no established precedent. • Participates in Hospital committees as deemed appropriate, attends annual Hospital and departmental fire/safety and infection control training, and maintains current knowledge of safety procedures within the Hospital and department.

Qualifications

Education: Juris Doctorate and licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio, required. Experience: Two years’ experience in the practice of law and exhibit an interest and aptitude for health care law, IS/IT services, privacy and security, risk management, data protection, health equity, clinical research, nonprofit law, or health care related litigation.
