Wage Range: $25.85 - $30.40, non-exempt

Position Overview:
The Prevention Coordinator plays a vital role in developing and implementing education, outreach, and prevention programs aimed at addressing substance abuse within the community. A key function of this position will involve creating a plan or framework to integrate problem gambling prevention strategies into the program’s existing network of services. As part of the Youth Prevention Program, the Prevention Coordinator will focus on educating youth and families—particularly within the Native American/Alaska Native community—about the signs of substance abuse and providing support and referrals for treatment when necessary.
Dedicated to a recovery-based approach, the Coordinator will actively seek opportunities to collaborate with other program staff working on suicide prevention, academic support, and outpatient addiction services to help steward a robust program that effectively meets the multi-faceted needs of the community. Additionally, the Coordinator will contribute to evaluating community outcomes to assess the efficacy of prevention efforts and make informed decisions to help guide the program in the development of community-driven and effective prevention programming.
What you will do:
- Develop and implement culturally relevant and evidence-based prevention programs and initiatives to reduce alcohol and drug abuse
- Provide training and education on alcohol and drug abuse prevention as well as problem gambling and other ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs) prevention
- Attend meetings and develop relationships with external stakeholders to maintain communication and cooperation between NARA NW and outside Tribes/ agencies/organizations
- Develop a plan/framework to integrate problem gambling prevention strategies/education to support the program’s Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD) prevention strategies/initiatives
- Work with the NARA NW policy development team on a comprehensive workplace problem gambling prevention policy
- Attend a minimum of 8 hours of OHA Problem Gambling Services approved trainings per year.
- Identify and develop educational materials around Substance Use and problem gambling
- Meet regularly with state representatives and funders to provide updates around prevention efforts being made within the community.
- Assist with the planning and implementation
- Work collaboratively, and maintain professional boundaries with clients, other NARA staff, team members, and treat everyone with respect and dignity at all times
Qualifications
We would like to hear from people that have:
- A bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, psychology, education, addiction services, or a related field; a combination of relevant experience and education will also be considered
- Experience with community engagement, outreach or public service experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting
- Experience working in substance abuse, mental health, and suicide prevention preferred
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including youth, parents, school staff, and community partners.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, including planning implementation, and evaluation
- Experience with data collection and measuring program outcomes to inform program development
- Preferred Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) certification or ability to obtain within the first year of employment
- Preferred previous experience working with Native American/Alaskan Native youth, families, and communities
