What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substance Abuse Specialist position at NC Brookhaven Behavioral Health?

  • NC Brookhaven Behavioral Health has two immediate openings for an LCAS/LCAS-A for our CST team.

Purpose Statement:

The purpose of the full time Substance Abuse Specialist is to provide expertise to the Community Support Team for treatment of the individuals served.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Psychoeducation & Support:

  • Provide psychoeducation and counseling as outlined in the Person-Centered Plan (PCP).
  • Assist with the development of relapse prevention and disease management strategies.

Crisis Intervention:

  • Assist with crisis intervention and support the team in managing complex client situations.

Treatment Interventions & Coordination:

  • Assist the Team Lead in delivering behavioral and substance use disorder treatment interventions.
  • Coordinate initial and ongoing assessment activities, ensuring comprehensive and accurate evaluations.

Person-Centered Planning:

  • Develop and revise the PCP based on client needs, and ensure its implementation.
  • Consult with medical and non-medical providers to gather input for the planning process.
  • Include family, community, and natural supports in the treatment and recovery planning.

Linkage & Referrals:

  • Ensure linkage to appropriate services, including psychological and psychiatric evaluations.
  • Provide intensive case management and connect clients to both formal and informal supports.

Monitoring & Follow-Up:

  • Regularly monitor client progress and document outcomes.
  • Communicate updates on client progress and effectiveness of interventions to the Team Lead.

Housing Support:

  • Assist clients with housing searches, engage with landlords, and facilitate housing stability.
  • Mitigate housing crises and support clients in maintaining stable housing.
  • Provide support for daily living skills and assist with connecting to financial and in-kind resources.
  • Education, Experience, and Knowledge Required
  • Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor
  • Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor-Associate
  • Certified Substance Addiction Counselor

Must have a strong commitment to the right and ability of each person with a severe and persistent mental illness to live in normal community residences; work in market jobs; and have access to helpful, adequate, competent, and continuous supports and services. Skills and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental illness and respect for client right and personal preferences in treatment are essential. Must have a valid driver’s license for North Carolina.Benefits Package Include:

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $48,763.00 - $58,619.00 per year
