The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Engineer to join our Photogrammetry team that acquires aerial imagery and generates geospatial information products used for transportation planning, design, and construction.
This team also partners with government agencies for statewide orthophotography and aerial LiDAR elevation data programs serving as NCDOT's subject matter experts for aerial surveying.
In this role, you will:
- Provide geomatics engineering support in the consultation, investigation, planning, reviewing, evaluating, and executing moderately complex photogrammetric mapping used for functional design, preliminary design, final design, and construction earthwork pay quantities.
- Be responsible for all technical tasks associated with completing photogrammetric mapping projects including project data preparation, scoping, cost estimates, analysis, and delivery of planimetric/terrain data; and for the pre-final review of all earthwork terrain analysis/earthwork calculations performed on assigned construction projects.
- Evaluate in-house and contracted photogrammetric mapping for completeness and compliance with NCDOT guidelines and standards.
- Communicate verbally and in documentation with supervisory engineers, junior engineers, technicians, and private engineering firm staff.
- Be responsible for all technical and personnel tasks involved in the preparation, contracting, analysis, and delivery of planimetric and terrain data.
- Perform work independently for moderately-complex photogrammetric mapping projects, and at the direction of supervisory engineers for more complex geomatics engineering assignments.
What You Bring
- Knowledge/understanding of the concepts, practices, and theories of professional transportation and geomatics engineering used in photogrammetry, surveying, and GIS relating to highway location, design, and construction.
- Experience using and operating photogrammetry equipment and software, and that related to engineering surveys, and/or GIS.
- Experience executing moderately-complex photogrammetric mapping projects for completeness and compliance with NCDOT guidelines and standards.
- Experience verbally and in writing communicating complex technical information clearly, effectively, and concisely to senior and junior geomatics professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to perceive overlapping aerial imagery stereoscopically in 3 dimensions and correctly interpret planimetric and terrain features relatively.
Management Prefers
- Candidates registered as Professional Land Surveyors and/or Professional Engineers.
Note
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
Education & Experience
- Bachelors Degree in engineering, and
- 3 years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
