What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Care Specialist position at Nealon Reptiles?
Do you have a passion for Reptiles? Are you responsible and enjoy working in an environment that allows independence and learning?
Nealon Reptiles is looking for Animal Keepers to assist with providing top-notch care for our collection of rare and endangered reptiles from around the Globe. With a conservation-first approach, we provide quality care and environments with the goal of preventing the extinction of some of the rarest reptiles on Earth.
In our 2,000 Square foot facility (soon to be 13,000 Sq Ft), we work with various species of Geckos, Chameleons, and Non-Venmous Snakes. Every day, these animals require us to ensure that their enclosures are cleaned, that they are well fed, and healthy.
During the course of any normal day, you may find yourself assisting with the hatching of rare Leaf Tailed Geckos, feeding Chameleons, cleaning the snake enclosures - and basic cleaning of the facility itself.
Previous experience with reptiles is not necessary - we will teach the right person everything that they need to know. Experience working with reptiles, especially in a Veterinarian setting is a great bonus. However, what is more important than experience is a geniune love for these animals. Being punctual, hard-working, and responsible are also very important. If you're calling off a lot, you won't work out here.
You need to be comfortable with bugs as well - we go through a lot of crickets and roaches to feed our animals!
Keeping a realistic expectation of the job clear and up-front - most of the work we do is cleaning animal enclosures, ensuring that each and every animal has everything it needs to not only survive, but thrive. Our mission of understanding and breeding some of the most rare reptiles on the planet is core of everything we do. We understand that reptiles are not everyones' thing - but they are amazing animals that deserve the same attention as others.
This position is primarily a day-time position - think 8 am - 4 pm. However, there may be times when you could be expected to work on the weekends.
You'll be joining a small, but dedicated team who believe in what we're doing.
Please apply for an in-person interview, as we are looking for new teammates as quickly as possible.
