The Associate Head of School is a new position for NNM - one that we are excited to add to the school community starting summer of 2022! Reporting to the Head of School and working as a key member of the School’s leadership team, this person will be responsible for the overall management of faculty, curriculum, student life and programs across all levels. Will lead strategic initiatives in partnership with other school administrators and the Board of Directors.
Schedule: This is a year-round, full-time position starting July 2022
Main duties / responsibilities include:
Oversee the primary, elementary and junior high curriculum to ensure that teaching and learning practices are cohesive across and within divisions and align with the School’s mission, values and Montessori philosophy
Work collaboratively with faculty and leaders to define and embrace a shared vision of student progress and well-being, guiding and supporting the implementation of that vision throughout the School with ongoing maintenance
Continue to review and streamline assessment tools used to evaluate student growth and development. Review necessary standardized tests or introduce new assessment tools as appropriate.
Manage academic directors and other faculty coordinators providing feedback, inspiring growth and development, conducting evaluations
Inform and evolve faculty evaluations and professional development
Provide leadership, support, and guidance to directors as they administer the curricular and co-curricular programs and personnel in their divisions.
Develop signature programming initiatives and turn shared visions into realities to improve the student experience and enhance the School’s internal and external identities.
In partnership with the various directors and human resources, support all recruiting, hiring and related activities for faculty.
Serve as a liaison for parent concerns and communication as needed.
Serve as administrative liaison to Board Committees, and to the Board of Directors, as directed by the Head of School. Attend all open board meetings and serve as a staff member on certain board committees.
Attend to the needs of the School in the absence of the Head and represent the Head of School as necessary at meetings and functions and in other engagements outside the immediate community.
Maintain a strong presence in all areas of the School, keeping the Head informed of the general programs, activities, challenges, and opportunities of the School.
Montessori-trained educator who can provide evidence of a commitment to lifelong learning.A minimum of 7 years experience as a Montessori classroom teacher plus experience in a school administrator position
Master’s Degree required, preferably in an education related area of study
Nuanced understanding of the academic operations of a school with an emphasis on student life and experience
Significant experience leading, coaching and managing adults in a school environment
Personal and professional commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and the requisite skills to support faculty & student growth in this area
Eagerness to engage actively with students and faculty and willingness to prioritize visibility amidst the demands of a busy professional schedule.
Reflective and thoughtful, upholding the highest levels of integrity.
