Job Description
Nearmap’s Aerial Systems Engineers take a regional lead in providing technical engineering maintenance and support for our aerial capture systems. Working with the Global Service Manager, they are responsible for the deployment, servicing and general management of all aerial capture systems in the US region. They perform complex aerial systems service/maintenance tasks for the US Survey Operations team, including new system test and rollout and troubleshooting of issues. The role involves regular and frequent travel to airports across the US as well as office-based work, sometimes with little notice if there are urgent issues in the field.
A typical day for you may look like this…
- Sets up and configures aerial systems, including hardware and software.
- Performs system-level testing.
- Installs aerial systems in aircraft.
- Provides training on sensor system operation.
- Upgrades aerial systems hardware and software as required.
- Ensure documentation and records are up to date.
- Ensures our aerial systems are regularly serviced.
- Ensures minimal production down time or image quality issues due to system and component failures preventable through diligent and proactive servicing
- Performs system troubleshooting and monitors equipment for sub-optimal performance and faults. Replaces parts as required and performs post-replacement setup and testing.
- Ensures any servicing or testing that occurs is clearly and concisely documented.
- Ensures minimal production down time due to lack of systems or replacement parts, through excellent inventory management.
- Tracks US inventory to ensure appropriate levels of spare parts and equipment are available to address shortages and risks.
- Tracks the location of aerial systems, including parts and equipment in store and equipment with operators.
- Ships and receives equipment through domestic and international carriers.
- Utilizes the expertise of our global teams to analyze system errors/problems in a timely fashion, preventing interruptions to day-to-day operations.
- Prevents future issues and drives system improvements through excellent reporting of bugs/anomalies.
- Provides 1st level support for sensor system issues in production
- Works with Aerial Survey Service Providers to effectively and efficiently troubleshoot problems and resolve issues.
- Identifies and documents aerial system production issues and new feature requirements when encountered.
- Helps ensure clear case management to resolution of issues, including managing communications amongst parties on status and impact of any issues.
- Assists in smooth transition of new systems from R&D and pilot phases into Survey Operations production environment.
- Help test and rollout upcoming system releases.
- Assists with producing new or updated processes and documentation.
- Helps train Survey Operations Technicians and Aerial Survey Service Providers on new processes and systems.
- Able to assist with day-to-day Survey Operations tasks if load demand including
- Downloading, processing and quality assurance of surveys.
- Managing Survey Media and Data.
Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering (Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics)
- At least two years’ industry experience
- Experience working in an operational engineering role in a production environment
- Mechanical/electronic expertise setting up and testing systems both in the field and in house
- Familiar with diagnosing network connectivity issues involving different types of physical cable issues, wired and wireless networks
- Basic assembly skills including the use of a soldering iron.
- Familiarity with board-level electronics testing and calibration including use of multimeters, power supplies and oscilloscopes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, you have the ability to relay complex information in layman’s terms.
- Very organized with attention to detail.
- Comfortable managing priorities in a fast-moving operations environment as part of a multi-disciplinary team, preferably with demonstrated ability to meet high-availability service commitments.
- Rational, proactive and able to deal with issues in a pragmatic and timely fashion.
- Meticulous in completing jobs 100% and on schedule.
- Not afraid to ask questions.
- Interested in learning about new technologies.
- Must be prepared to work flexible hours (including from time to time weekends and travel on short notice).
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, move about in confined spaces and perform work outdoors
- Have a valid drivers license
