Neighborhood Properties, Inc. is a privately held real estate development, investment and management company based in Charlottesville, VA. We have 40 years of experience and proven expertise acquiring, developing and operating residential rental properties.
We are looking for an ambitious and seasoned Controller (CPA preferred) who wants to join a local growing company which does not have layers of corporate bureaucracy.
The Controller reports to the Vice President and CEO. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the production of timely, accurate financial reporting, developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP, insuring that strong internal controls and effective transaction processing routines protect the assets of the company and providing financial data, information, and statistics as needed to support the financial decisions and operations of the company.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
- Oversees all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintains rigorous monthly closing schedule management
- Consistently analyzes financial data and presents financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicates monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitors progress and changes and keeps senior leadership abreast of the financial status of the companies.
- Assists leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
- Oversees and participates in all Tax Planning, Year End Financials, and Tax Returns
- Manages cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with others; continuously collaborates with leadership to assess the financial efficacy of operations and establishes systems to support operations.
- Manages and track the performance of assets/specific portfolios in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.
- Reports to ownership, when necessary, in writing and verbally
- Assists with creation, refinement, and implementation of accounting policies & procedures. (Primarily responsible for documenting workflow, procedures and policies related to accounting)
- Leverages strengths of the current accounting team members, helps to clarify roles and responsibilities, and develops and implementing programs to maximize and reaches optimal individual and organizational goals
- Provides leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; creates and promotes a positive and supportive work environment
- Establishes and promotes core values of the department as well as company-wide values
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree Accounting, finance or a related field is required
- CPA certification preferred
- Master’s in Business a plus
- A minimum of 6 years of related experience.
- Experience in real estate industry preferred but not required
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment
- Self-motivated, willing to take a hands-on role
- Honest, reliable, self-aware, and conscientious
- Excellent organization and prioritization skills
- High standards for accuracy, precision, and work produce
- Drug test and a criminal background screening are required
- Valid driver's license with no DUI/Reckless convictions within the past five years.
